Chapter 1

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֖ 'el-moshshe֑h vayedabּe֤r yehvah֙ 'ela֔yv me'o֥hel mo'e֖d le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying,

וַיִּקְרָ֖א אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו מֵאֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵ֖ד לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): dּabּe֞r 'el-bּene֤y yishsera'el֙ ve'amaretּa֣ 'alehe֔m 'ada֗m kּiֽy-yaqeri֥yb mikּe֛m qarebּa֖n laֽyhva֑h min-habּehema֗h min-habּaqar֙ umin-hatzּo֔'n tּaqeri֖ybu 'et-qarebּanekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When any of you brings an offering [1] to the LORD, you shall bring your offering from the cattle, the herd, or the flock.'

דַּבֵּ֞ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם אָדָ֗ם כִּֽי־יַקְרִ֥יב מִכֶּ֛ם קָרְבָּ֖ן לַֽיהוָ֑ה מִן־הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה מִן־הַבָּקָר֙ וּמִן־הַצֹּ֔אן תַּקְרִ֖יבוּ אֶת־קָרְבַּנְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): im-'ola֤h qarebּano֙ min-habּaqa֔r zaka֥r tּami֖ym yaqeriybe֑nּu 'el-pּe֝tach 'o֤hel mo'ed֙ yaqeri֣yb 'ot֔o liretzon֖o lipene֥y yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)If his offering is a burnt sacrifice from the herd, he must offer a male without any defect. He is to bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting so that he may be accepted before the LORD.

אִם־עֹלָ֤ה קָרְבָּנוֹ֙ מִן־הַבָּקָ֔ר זָכָ֥ר תָּמִ֖ים יַקְרִיבֶ֑נּוּ אֶל־פֶּ֝תַח אֹ֤הֶל מוֹעֵד֙ יַקְרִ֣יב אֹת֔וֹ לִרְצֹנ֖וֹ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vesama֣ke yad֔o 'a֖l ro֣'shsh ha'ola֑h veniretza֥h l֖o lekapּe֥r 'alaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.

וְסָמַ֣ךְ יָד֔וֹ עַ֖ל רֹ֣אשׁ הָעֹלָ֑ה וְנִרְצָ֥ה ל֖וֹ לְכַפֵּ֥ר עָלָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshacha֛t 'et-bּe֥n habּaqa֖r lipene֣y yehva֑h ve֠hiqeriybu bּene֨y 'aharo֤n hֽakּoֽhaniym֙ 'et-hadּa֔m vezareq֨u 'et-hadּa֤m 'al-hamּizebּe֨cha֙ sabi֔yb 'ashsher-pּe֖tach 'o֥hel mo'eֽd׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He shall then slaughter the young bull before the LORD. Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall bring the blood and splash it against all sides of the altar at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

וְשָׁחַ֛ט אֶת־בֶּ֥ן הַבָּקָ֖ר לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְ֠הִקְרִיבוּ בְּנֵ֨י אַהֲרֹ֤ן הַֽכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ אֶת־הַדָּ֔ם וְזָרְק֨וּ אֶת־הַדָּ֤ם עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֨חַ֙ סָבִ֔יב אֲשֶׁר־פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehipeshshi֖yt 'et-ha'ola֑h venitּa֥ch 'ota֖hּ linetacheֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He is to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.

וְהִפְשִׁ֖יט אֶת־הָעֹלָ֑ה וְנִתַּ֥ח אֹתָ֖הּ לִנְתָחֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve֠natenu bּene֨y 'aharo֧n hakּohe֛n 'e֖shsh 'al-hamּizebּe֑cha ve'arek֥u 'etzi֖ym 'al-ha'eֽshsh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange the wood on the fire.

וְ֠נָתְנוּ בְּנֵ֨י אַהֲרֹ֧ן הַכֹּהֵ֛ן אֵ֖שׁ עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וְעָרְכ֥וּ עֵצִ֖ים עַל־הָאֵֽשׁ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'arek֗u bּene֤y 'aharon֙ hakּo֣hani֔ym 'e֚t hanּetachi֔ym 'et-haro֖'shsh ve'et-hapּa֑der 'al-ha'etziym֙ 'ashshe֣r 'al-ha'e֔shsh 'ashshe֖r 'al-hamּizebּeֽcha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall arrange the parts, the head and the fat, on the wood that is on the altar fire.

וְעָרְכ֗וּ בְּנֵ֤י אַהֲרֹן֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים אֵ֚ת הַנְּתָחִ֔ים אֶת־הָרֹ֖אשׁ וְאֶת־הַפָּ֑דֶר עַל־הָעֵצִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־הָאֵ֔שׁ אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veqirebּ֥o ukera'a֖yv yirecha֣tz bּamּa֑yim vehiqeti֨yr hakּohe֤n 'et-hakּol֙ hamּizebּe֔chah 'ola֛h 'ishshּe֥h reֽycha-niych֖ocha laֽyhvaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)He must wash the internal organs and the legs with water; then the priest shall burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet savour to the LORD.

וְקִרְבּ֥וֹ וּכְרָעָ֖יו יִרְחַ֣ץ בַּמָּ֑יִם וְהִקְטִ֨יר הַכֹּהֵ֤ן אֶת־הַכֹּל֙ הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה עֹלָ֛ה אִשֵּׁ֥ה רֵֽיחַ־נִיח֖וֹחַ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-min-hatzּo֨'n qarebּan֧o min-hakּeshsabi֛ym '֥o min-ha'izּi֖ym le'ola֑h zaka֥r tּami֖ym yaqeriybeֽnּu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)If his offering is from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, to be a burnt sacrifice, he must offer a male without any defect.

וְאִם־מִן־הַצֹּ֨אן קָרְבָּנ֧וֹ מִן־הַכְּשָׂבִ֛ים א֥וֹ מִן־הָעִזִּ֖ים לְעֹלָ֑ה זָכָ֥ר תָּמִ֖ים יַקְרִיבֶֽנּוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshacha֨t 'ot֜o 'a֣l ye֧reke hamּizebּe֛cha tzapo֖nah lipene֣y yehva֑h vezareq֡u bּeney֩ 'aharo֨n hakּohani֧ym 'et-dּam֛o 'al-hamּizebּe֖cha sabiֽyb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He shall slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall splash its blood against all sides of the altar.

וְשָׁחַ֨ט אֹת֜וֹ עַ֣ל יֶ֧רֶךְ הַמִּזְבֵּ֛חַ צָפֹ֖נָה לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְזָרְק֡וּ בְּנֵי֩ אַהֲרֹ֨ן הַכֹּהֲנִ֧ים אֶת־דָּמ֛וֹ עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ סָבִֽיב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venitּa֤ch 'oto֙ linetacha֔yv ve'et-ro'shsh֖o ve'et-pּider֑o ve'ara֤ke hakּohen֙ 'ota֔m 'al-haֽ'etziym֙ 'ashshe֣r 'al-ha'e֔shsh 'ashshe֖r 'al-hamּizebּeֽcha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He is to cut it into pieces, including the head and the fat; the priest shall arrange them on the wood that is on the altar fire.

וְנִתַּ֤ח אֹתוֹ֙ לִנְתָחָ֔יו וְאֶת־רֹאשׁ֖וֹ וְאֶת־פִּדְר֑וֹ וְעָרַ֤ךְ הַכֹּהֵן֙ אֹתָ֔ם עַל־הָֽעֵצִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־הָאֵ֔שׁ אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaqּe֥reb vehakּera'a֖yim yirecha֣tz bּamּa֑yim vehiqeri֨yb hakּohe֤n 'et-hakּol֙ vehiqeti֣yr hamּizebּe֔chah 'ola֣h h֗u 'ishshּe֛h re֥ycha niycho֖cha layhvaֽh׃p

וְהַקֶּ֥רֶב וְהַכְּרָעַ֖יִם יִרְחַ֣ץ בַּמָּ֑יִם וְהִקְרִ֨יב הַכֹּהֵ֤ן אֶת־הַכֹּל֙ וְהִקְטִ֣יר הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה עֹלָ֣ה ה֗וּא אִשֵּׁ֛ה רֵ֥יחַ נִיחֹ֖חַ לַיהוָֽה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'i֧m min-ha'֛op 'ola֥h qarebּan֖o laֽyhva֑h vehiqeri֣yb min-hatּori֗ym '֛o min-bּene֥y hayּona֖h 'et-qarebּanֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)If the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD is from the birds, he shall bring his offering of either turtledoves or young pigeons.

וְאִ֧ם מִן־הָע֛וֹף עֹלָ֥ה קָרְבָּנ֖וֹ לַֽיהוָ֑ה וְהִקְרִ֣יב מִן־הַתֹּרִ֗ים א֛וֹ מִן־בְּנֵ֥י הַיּוֹנָ֖ה אֶת־קָרְבָּנֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehiqeriyb֤o hakּohen֙ 'el-hamּizebּe֔cha umalaq֙ 'et-ro'shsh֔o vehiqeti֖yr hamּizebּe֑chah venimetza֣h dam֔o 'a֖l qi֥yr hamּizebּeֽcha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off its head, and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out against the side of the altar.

וְהִקְרִיב֤וֹ הַכֹּהֵן֙ אֶל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ וּמָלַק֙ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֔וֹ וְהִקְטִ֖יר הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חָה וְנִמְצָ֣ה דָמ֔וֹ עַ֖ל קִ֥יר הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehesi֥yr 'et-mure'at֖o bּenotzata֑hּ vehishsheli֨yke 'ota֜hּ 'e֤tzel hamּizebּe֨cha֙ qe֔demah 'el-meq֖om hadּaֽshshen׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He shall remove the crop with its contents and throw it to the east side of the altar, where the ashes are kept.

וְהֵסִ֥יר אֶת־מֻרְאָת֖וֹ בְּנֹצָתָ֑הּ וְהִשְׁלִ֨יךְ אֹתָ֜הּ אֵ֤צֶל הַמִּזְבֵּ֨חַ֙ קֵ֔דְמָה אֶל־מְק֖וֹם הַדָּֽשֶׁן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshisּa֨ 'ot֣o bikenapayv֮ lo֣ yabedּiyl֒ vehiqeti֨yr 'ot֤o hakּohen֙ hamּizebּe֔chah 'al-ha'etzi֖ym 'ashshe֣r 'al-ha'e֑shsh 'ola֣h h֗u 'ishshּe֛h re֥ycha niycho֖cha layhvaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)He shall tear it open by the wings but without completely dividing it. Then the priest shall burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet savour to the LORD.

וְשִׁסַּ֨ע אֹת֣וֹ בִכְנָפָיו֮ לֹ֣א יַבְדִּיל֒ וְהִקְטִ֨יר אֹת֤וֹ הַכֹּהֵן֙ הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה עַל־הָעֵצִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־הָאֵ֑שׁ עֹלָ֣ה ה֗וּא אִשֵּׁ֛ה רֵ֥יחַ נִיחֹ֖חַ לַיהוָֽה׃ס
