Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

Παῦλος δοῦλος θεοῦ, ἀπόστολος δὲ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ κατὰ πίστιν ἐκλεκτῶν θεοῦ καὶ ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας τῆς κατʼ εὐσέβειαν

Edified Edition (EDE)In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

ἐπʼ ἐλπίδι ζωῆς αἰωνίου, ἣν ἐπηγγείλατο ὁ ἀψευδὴς θεὸς πρὸ χρόνων αἰωνίων

Edified Edition (EDE)But has in due times manifested His word through preaching, which is committed to me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

ἐφανέρωσεν δὲ καιροῖς ἰδίοις, τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ ἐν κηρύγματι ὃ ἐπιστεύθην ἐγὼ κατʼ ἐπιταγὴν τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν θεοῦ,

Edified Edition (EDE)To Titus, my own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Τίτῳ γνησίῳ τέκνῳ κατὰ κοινὴν πίστιν· χάρις ⸀καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς καὶ ⸂Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ⸃ τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν.

Edified Edition (EDE)For this cause I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are wanting and appoint elders in every city, as I had appointed you:

Τούτου χάριν ⸀ἀπέλιπόν σε ἐν Κρήτῃ ἵνα τὰ λείποντα ἐπιδιορθώσῃ, καὶ καταστήσῃς κατὰ πόλιν πρεσβυτέρους, ὡς ἐγώ σοι διεταξάμην,

Edified Edition (EDE)If any is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

εἴ τίς ἐστιν ἀνέγκλητος, μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἀνήρ, τέκνα ἔχων πιστά, μὴ ἐν κατηγορίᾳ ἀσωτίας ἢ ἀνυπότακτα.

Phonetic (Greek): dei gar ton episkopon anenkleton einai hos theoy oikonomon, me aythade, me orgilon, me paroinon, me plekten, me aischrokerde,

Edified Edition (EDE)For an overseer must be blameless as the steward of God, not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to greedy gain;

δεῖ γὰρ τὸν ἐπίσκοπον ἀνέγκλητον εἶναι ὡς θεοῦ οἰκονόμον, μὴ αὐθάδη, μὴ ὀργίλον, μὴ πάροινον, μὴ πλήκτην, μὴ αἰσχροκερδῆ,

Phonetic (Greek): alla philoxenon, philagathon, sophrona, dikaion, hosion, enkrate,

Edified Edition (EDE)But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good people, sober, just, holy, temperate;

ἀλλὰ φιλόξενον, φιλάγαθον, σώφρονα, δίκαιον, ὅσιον, ἐγκρατῆ,

Phonetic (Greek): antechomenon toy kata ten didachen pistoy logou, hina dynatos e kai parakalein en tῇ didaskaliᾳ tῇ hygiainoysῃ kai toys antilegontas elenchein.

Edified Edition (EDE)Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

ἀντεχόμενον τοῦ κατὰ τὴν διδαχὴν πιστοῦ λόγου, ἵνα δυνατὸς ᾖ καὶ παρακαλεῖν ἐν τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ τῇ ὑγιαινούσῃ καὶ τοὺς ἀντιλέγοντας ἐλέγχειν.

Phonetic (Greek): Eisin gar polloi ⸀kai anypotaktoi, mataiologoi kai phrenapatai, malista ohi ek ⸀tes peritomes,

Edified Edition (EDE)For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision:

Εἰσὶν γὰρ πολλοὶ ⸀καὶ ἀνυπότακτοι, ματαιολόγοι καὶ φρεναπάται, μάλιστα οἱ ἐκ ⸀τῆς περιτομῆς,

Edified Edition (EDE)Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of greedy gain.

οὓς δεῖ ἐπιστομίζειν, οἵτινες ὅλους οἴκους ἀνατρέπουσιν διδάσκοντες ἃ μὴ δεῖ αἰσχροῦ κέρδους χάριν.

Edified Edition (EDE)One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, "The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies."

εἶπέν τις ἐξ αὐτῶν, ἴδιος αὐτῶν προφήτης, Κρῆτες ἀεὶ ψεῦσται, κακὰ θηρία, γαστέρες ἀργαί·

Edified Edition (EDE)This witness is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

ἡ μαρτυρία αὕτη ἐστὶν ἀληθής. διʼ ἣν αἰτίαν ἔλεγχε αὐτοὺς ἀποτόμως, ἵνα ὑγιαίνωσιν ἐν τῇ πίστει,

Edified Edition (EDE)Not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of people who turn from the truth.

μὴ προσέχοντες Ἰουδαϊκοῖς μύθοις καὶ ἐντολαῖς ἀνθρώπων ἀποστρεφομένων τὴν ἀλήθειαν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀panta kathara tois katharois· tois de memiammenois kai apistois oyden katharon, alla memiantai ayton kai ho noys kai he syneidesis.

Edified Edition (EDE)To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.

⸀πάντα καθαρὰ τοῖς καθαροῖς· τοῖς δὲ μεμιαμμένοις καὶ ἀπίστοις οὐδὲν καθαρόν, ἀλλὰ μεμίανται αὐτῶν καὶ ὁ νοῦς καὶ ἡ συνείδησις.

Edified Edition (EDE)They profess that they know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and to every good work reprobate.

θεὸν ὁμολογοῦσιν εἰδέναι, τοῖς δὲ ἔργοις ἀρνοῦνται, βδελυκτοὶ ὄντες καὶ ἀπειθεῖς καὶ πρὸς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἀδόκιμοι.
