Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God,

Edified Edition (EDE)which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures,

ὃ προεπηγγείλατο διὰ τῶν προφητῶν αὐτοῦ ἐν γραφαῖς ἁγίαις

Edified Edition (EDE)concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, τοῦ γενομένου ἐκ σπέρματος Δαυὶδ κατὰ σάρκα,

Phonetic (Greek): toy horisthentos yhioy theoy en dynamei kata pneyma hagiosynes ex anastaseos nekron, Ἰesoy Christoy toy kyriou hemon,

Edified Edition (EDE)and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

τοῦ ὁρισθέντος υἱοῦ θεοῦ ἐν δυνάμει κατὰ πνεῦμα ἁγιωσύνης ἐξ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν, Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν,

Edified Edition (EDE)Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,

διʼ οὗ ἐλάβομεν χάριν καὶ ἀποστολὴν εἰς ὑπακοὴν πίστεως ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ὑπὲρ τοῦ ὀνόματος αὐτοῦ,

Edified Edition (EDE)among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;

ἐν οἷς ἐστε καὶ ὑμεῖς κλητοὶ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): pasin tois oysin en Ῥomῃ agapetois theoy, kletois hagiois· charis hymin kai eirene apo theoy patros hemon kai kyriou Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

πᾶσιν τοῖς οὖσιν ἐν Ῥώμῃ ἀγαπητοῖς θεοῦ, κλητοῖς ἁγίοις· χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Proton men eycharisto tῷ theῷ mou dia Ἰesoy Christoy ⸀peri panton hymon, hoti he pistis hymon katangelletai en holῳ tῷ kosmῳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

Πρῶτον μὲν εὐχαριστῶ τῷ θεῷ μου διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ⸀περὶ πάντων ὑμῶν, ὅτι ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν καταγγέλλεται ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ κόσμῳ.

Phonetic (Greek): martys gar moy estin ho theos, ho latreyo en tῷ pneymati mou en tῷ eyangeliῳ toy yhioy aytoy, hos adialeiptos mneian hymon poioymai

Edified Edition (EDE)For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,

μάρτυς γάρ μού ἐστιν ὁ θεός, ᾧ λατρεύω ἐν τῷ πνεύματί μου ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἀδιαλείπτως μνείαν ὑμῶν ποιοῦμαι

Phonetic (Greek): pantote epi ton proseuchon mou, deomenos ei pos ede pote eyodothesomai en tῷ thelemati toy theoy elthein pros hymas.

Edified Edition (EDE)making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.

πάντοτε ἐπὶ τῶν προσευχῶν μου, δεόμενος εἴ πως ἤδη ποτὲ εὐοδωθήσομαι ἐν τῷ θελήματι τοῦ θεοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς.

Phonetic (Greek): epipotho gar idein hymas, hina ti metado charisma hymin pneumatikon eis to sterichthenai hymas,

Edified Edition (EDE)For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established,

ἐπιποθῶ γὰρ ἰδεῖν ὑμᾶς, ἵνα τι μεταδῶ χάρισμα ὑμῖν πνευματικὸν εἰς τὸ στηριχθῆναι ὑμᾶς,

Phonetic (Greek): toyto de estin symparaklethenai en hymin dia tes en allelois pisteos hymon te kai emoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

τοῦτο δέ ἐστιν συμπαρακληθῆναι ἐν ὑμῖν διὰ τῆς ἐν ἀλλήλοις πίστεως ὑμῶν τε καὶ ἐμοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): oy thelo de hymas agnoein, adelphoi, hoti pollakis proethemen elthein pros hymas, kai ekolythen achri toy deyro, hina tina karpon scho kai en hymin kathos kai en tois loipois ethnesin.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.

οὐ θέλω δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀγνοεῖν, ἀδελφοί, ὅτι πολλάκις προεθέμην ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς, καὶ ἐκωλύθην ἄχρι τοῦ δεῦρο, ἵνα τινὰ καρπὸν σχῶ καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν καθὼς καὶ ἐν τοῖς λοιποῖς ἔθνεσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἕllesin te kai barbarois, sophois te kai anoetois opheiletes eimi·

Edified Edition (EDE)I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise.

Ἕλλησίν τε καὶ βαρβάροις, σοφοῖς τε καὶ ἀνοήτοις ὀφειλέτης εἰμί·

Phonetic (Greek): ohytos to katʼ eme prothymon kai hymin tois en Ῥomῃ eyangelisasthai.

Edified Edition (EDE)So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.

οὕτως τὸ κατʼ ἐμὲ πρόθυμον καὶ ὑμῖν τοῖς ἐν Ῥώμῃ εὐαγγελίσασθαι.

Phonetic (Greek): Oy gar epaischynomai to ⸀eyangelion, dynamis gar theoy estin eis soterian panti tῷ pisteyonti, Ἰoudaiῳ te proton kai Ἕlleni·

Edified Edition (EDE)For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

Οὐ γὰρ ἐπαισχύνομαι τὸ ⸀εὐαγγέλιον, δύναμις γὰρ θεοῦ ἐστιν εἰς σωτηρίαν παντὶ τῷ πιστεύοντι, Ἰουδαίῳ τε πρῶτον καὶ Ἕλληνι·

Phonetic (Greek): dikaiosyne gar theoy en aytῷ apokalyptetai ek pisteos eis pistin, kathos gegraptai· Ὁ de dikaios ek pisteos zesetai.

Edified Edition (EDE)For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."

δικαιοσύνη γὰρ θεοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ ἀποκαλύπτεται ἐκ πίστεως εἰς πίστιν, καθὼς γέγραπται· Ὁ δὲ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpokalyptetai gar orge theoy apʼ oyranoy epi pasan asebeian kai adikian anthropon ton ten aletheian en adikiᾳ katechonton,

Edified Edition (EDE)For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Ἀποκαλύπτεται γὰρ ὀργὴ θεοῦ ἀπʼ οὐρανοῦ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν ἀσέβειαν καὶ ἀδικίαν ἀνθρώπων τῶν τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἐν ἀδικίᾳ κατεχόντων,

Phonetic (Greek): dioti to gnoston toy theoy phaneron estin en aytois, ho ⸂theos gar⸃ aytois ephanerosen.

Edified Edition (EDE)because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

διότι τὸ γνωστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ φανερόν ἐστιν ἐν αὐτοῖς, ὁ ⸂θεὸς γὰρ⸃ αὐτοῖς ἐφανέρωσεν.

Edified Edition (EDE)For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

τὰ γὰρ ἀόρατα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ κτίσεως κόσμου τοῖς ποιήμασιν νοούμενα καθορᾶται, ἥ τε ἀΐδιος αὐτοῦ δύναμις καὶ θειότης, εἰς τὸ εἶναι αὐτοὺς ἀναπολογήτους,

Phonetic (Greek): dioti gnontes ton theon oych hos theon edoxasan e eycharistesan, alla emataiothesan en tois dialogismois ayton kai eskotisthe he asynetos ayton kardia·

Edified Edition (EDE)because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

διότι γνόντες τὸν θεὸν οὐχ ὡς θεὸν ἐδόξασαν ἢ ηὐχαρίστησαν, ἀλλὰ ἐματαιώθησαν ἐν τοῖς διαλογισμοῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐσκοτίσθη ἡ ἀσύνετος αὐτῶν καρδία·

Phonetic (Greek): phaskontes einai sophoi emoranthesan,

Edified Edition (EDE)Professing to be wise, they became fools,

φάσκοντες εἶναι σοφοὶ ἐμωράνθησαν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ellaxan ten doxan toy aphthartou theoy en homoiomati eikonos phthartoy anthropou kai peteinon kai tetrapodon kai herpeton.

Edified Edition (EDE)and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

καὶ ἤλλαξαν τὴν δόξαν τοῦ ἀφθάρτου θεοῦ ἐν ὁμοιώματι εἰκόνος φθαρτοῦ ἀνθρώπου καὶ πετεινῶν καὶ τετραπόδων καὶ ἑρπετῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Dio paredoken aytoys ho theos en tais epithymiais ton kardion ayton eis akatharsian toy atimazesthai ta somata ayton en ⸀aytois,

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonour their bodies among themselves,

⸀Διὸ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς ὁ θεὸς ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῶν καρδιῶν αὐτῶν εἰς ἀκαθαρσίαν τοῦ ἀτιμάζεσθαι τὰ σώματα αὐτῶν ἐν ⸀αὐτοῖς,

Phonetic (Greek): ohitines metellaxan ten aletheian toy theoy en tῷ pseydei, kai esebasthesan kai elatreusan tῇ ktisei para ton ktisanta, hos estin eylogetos eis toys aionas· amen.

Edified Edition (EDE)who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

οἵτινες μετήλλαξαν τὴν ἀλήθειαν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῷ ψεύδει, καὶ ἐσεβάσθησαν καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν τῇ κτίσει παρὰ τὸν κτίσαντα, ὅς ἐστιν εὐλογητὸς εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας· ἀμήν.

Phonetic (Greek): Dia toyto paredoken aytoys ho theos eis pathe atimias· ahi te gar theleiai ayton metellaxan ten physiken chresin eis ten para physin,

Edified Edition (EDE)For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.

Διὰ τοῦτο παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς ὁ θεὸς εἰς πάθη ἀτιμίας· αἵ τε γὰρ θήλειαι αὐτῶν μετήλλαξαν τὴν φυσικὴν χρῆσιν εἰς τὴν παρὰ φύσιν,

Phonetic (Greek): homoios te kai ohi arsenes aphentes ten physiken chresin tes theleias exekaythesan en tῇ orexei ayton eis allelous, arsenes en arsesin ten aschemosynen katergazomenoi kai ten antimisthian hen edei tes planes ayton en ⸀heautois apolambanontes.

Edified Edition (EDE)Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

ὁμοίως τε καὶ οἱ ἄρσενες ἀφέντες τὴν φυσικὴν χρῆσιν τῆς θηλείας ἐξεκαύθησαν ἐν τῇ ὀρέξει αὐτῶν εἰς ἀλλήλους, ἄρσενες ἐν ἄρσεσιν τὴν ἀσχημοσύνην κατεργαζόμενοι καὶ τὴν ἀντιμισθίαν ἣν ἔδει τῆς πλάνης αὐτῶν ἐν ⸀ἑαυτοῖς ἀπολαμβάνοντες.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai kathos oyk edokimasan ton theon echein en epignosei, paredoken aytoys ho theos eis adokimon noyn, poiein ta me kathekonta,

Edified Edition (EDE)And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

Καὶ καθὼς οὐκ ἐδοκίμασαν τὸν θεὸν ἔχειν ἐν ἐπιγνώσει, παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς ὁ θεὸς εἰς ἀδόκιμον νοῦν, ποιεῖν τὰ μὴ καθήκοντα,

Phonetic (Greek): pepleromenous pasῃ ⸀adikiᾳ poneriᾳ pleonexiᾳ kakiᾳ, mestoys phthonou phonou eridos dolou kakoetheias, psithyristas,

Edified Edition (EDE)being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,

πεπληρωμένους πάσῃ ⸀ἀδικίᾳ πονηρίᾳ πλεονεξίᾳ κακίᾳ, μεστοὺς φθόνου φόνου ἔριδος δόλου κακοηθείας, ψιθυριστάς,

Phonetic (Greek): katalalous, theostygeis, hybristas, hyperephanous, alazonas, epheuretas kakon, goneysin apeitheis,

Edified Edition (EDE)backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

καταλάλους, θεοστυγεῖς, ὑβριστάς, ὑπερηφάνους, ἀλαζόνας, ἐφευρετὰς κακῶν, γονεῦσιν ἀπειθεῖς,

Phonetic (Greek): asynetous, asynthetous, ⸀astorgous, aneleemonas·

Edified Edition (EDE)undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

ἀσυνέτους, ἀσυνθέτους, ⸀ἀστόργους, ἀνελεήμονας·

Phonetic (Greek): ohitines to dikaioma toy theoy epignontes, hoti ohi ta toiayta prassontes axioi thanatou eisin, oy monon ayta poioysin alla kai syneudokoysin tois prassousin.

Edified Edition (EDE)who, knowing the righteous judgement of God, that those who practise such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practise them.

οἵτινες τὸ δικαίωμα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπιγνόντες, ὅτι οἱ τὰ τοιαῦτα πράσσοντες ἄξιοι θανάτου εἰσίν, οὐ μόνον αὐτὰ ποιοῦσιν ἀλλὰ καὶ συνευδοκοῦσιν τοῖς πράσσουσιν.
