Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,

Παῦλος δέσμιος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ καὶ Τιμόθεος ὁ ἀδελφὸς Φιλήμονι τῷ ἀγαπητῷ καὶ συνεργῷ ἡμῶν

Phonetic (Greek): kai Ἀpphiᾳ tῇ ⸀adelphῇ kai Ἀrchippῳ tῷ systratiotῃ hemon kai tῇ katʼ oikon sou ekklesiᾳ·

Edified Edition (EDE)And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in your house:

καὶ Ἀπφίᾳ τῇ ⸀ἀδελφῇ καὶ Ἀρχίππῳ τῷ συστρατιώτῃ ἡμῶν καὶ τῇ κατʼ οἶκόν σου ἐκκλησίᾳ·

Phonetic (Greek): charis hymin kai eirene apo theoy patros hemon kai kyriou Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Edified Edition (EDE)I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers,

Εὐχαριστῶ τῷ θεῷ μου πάντοτε μνείαν σου ποιούμενος ἐπὶ τῶν προσευχῶν μου,

Phonetic (Greek): akoyon sou ten agapen kai ten pistin hen echeis ⸀pros ton kyrion Ἰesoyn kai eis pantas toys hagious,

Edified Edition (EDE)Hearing of your love and faith, which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all saints;

ἀκούων σου τὴν ἀγάπην καὶ τὴν πίστιν ἣν ἔχεις ⸀πρὸς τὸν κύριον Ἰησοῦν καὶ εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἁγίους,

Phonetic (Greek): hopos he koinonia tes pisteos sou energes genetai en epignosei pantos agathoy ⸀toy en hemin eis ⸀Christon·

Edified Edition (EDE)That the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

ὅπως ἡ κοινωνία τῆς πίστεώς σου ἐνεργὴς γένηται ἐν ἐπιγνώσει παντὸς ἀγαθοῦ ⸀τοῦ ἐν ἡμῖν εἰς ⸀Χριστόν·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀charan gar ⸂pollen eschon⸃ kai paraklesin epi tῇ agapῃ sou, hoti ta splanchna ton hagion anapepautai dia soy, adelphe.

Edified Edition (EDE)For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints are refreshed by you, brother.

⸀χαρὰν γὰρ ⸂πολλὴν ἔσχον⸃ καὶ παράκλησιν ἐπὶ τῇ ἀγάπῃ σου, ὅτι τὰ σπλάγχνα τῶν ἁγίων ἀναπέπαυται διὰ σοῦ, ἀδελφέ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to command you that which is convenient,

Διό, πολλὴν ἐν Χριστῷ παρρησίαν ἔχων ἐπιτάσσειν σοι τὸ ἀνῆκον,

Edified Edition (EDE)Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech you, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

διὰ τὴν ἀγάπην μᾶλλον παρακαλῶ, τοιοῦτος ὢν ὡς Παῦλος πρεσβύτης νυνὶ δὲ καὶ δέσμιος ⸂Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ⸃—

Edified Edition (EDE)I beseech you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

παρακαλῶ σε περὶ τοῦ ἐμοῦ τέκνου, ὃν ἐγέννησα ἐν τοῖς ⸀δεσμοῖς Ὀνήσιμον,

Edified Edition (EDE)Who in time past was to you unprofitable, but now profitable to you and to me:

τόν ποτέ σοι ἄχρηστον νυνὶ ⸀δὲ σοὶ καὶ ἐμοὶ εὔχρηστον,

Phonetic (Greek): hon anepempsa ⸂soi ayton, toytʼ estin ta ema splanchna⸃·

Edified Edition (EDE)Whom I have sent again; you therefore receive him, that is, my own heart.

ὃν ἀνέπεμψά ⸂σοι αὐτόν, τοῦτʼ ἔστιν τὰ ἐμὰ σπλάγχνα⸃·

Edified Edition (EDE)Whom I would have retained with me, that in your stead he might have ministered to me in the bonds of the gospel:

ὃν ἐγὼ ἐβουλόμην πρὸς ἐμαυτὸν κατέχειν, ἵνα ὑπὲρ σοῦ ⸂μοι διακονῇ⸃ ἐν τοῖς δεσμοῖς τοῦ εὐαγγελίου,

Edified Edition (EDE)But without your mind would I do nothing; that your benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

χωρὶς δὲ τῆς σῆς γνώμης οὐδὲν ἠθέλησα ποιῆσαι, ἵνα μὴ ὡς κατὰ ἀνάγκην τὸ ἀγαθόν σου ᾖ ἀλλὰ κατὰ ἑκούσιον·

Phonetic (Greek): tacha gar dia toyto echoristhe pros horan hina aionion ayton apechῃs,

Edified Edition (EDE)For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that you should receive him forever;

τάχα γὰρ διὰ τοῦτο ἐχωρίσθη πρὸς ὥραν ἵνα αἰώνιον αὐτὸν ἀπέχῃς,

Phonetic (Greek): oyketi hos doylon alla hyper doylon, adelphon agapeton, malista emoi, posῳ de mallon soi kai en sarki kai en kyriῳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

οὐκέτι ὡς δοῦλον ἀλλὰ ὑπὲρ δοῦλον, ἀδελφὸν ἀγαπητόν, μάλιστα ἐμοί, πόσῳ δὲ μᾶλλον σοὶ καὶ ἐν σαρκὶ καὶ ἐν κυρίῳ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ei oyn me echeis koinonon, proslaboy ayton hos eme.

Edified Edition (EDE)If you count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

Εἰ οὖν με ἔχεις κοινωνόν, προσλαβοῦ αὐτὸν ὡς ἐμέ.

Phonetic (Greek): ei de ti edikesen se e opheilei, toyto emoi ⸀elloga·

Edified Edition (EDE)If he has wronged you, or owes you anything, put that on my account;

εἰ δέ τι ἠδίκησέν σε ἢ ὀφείλει, τοῦτο ἐμοὶ ⸀ἐλλόγα·

Phonetic (Greek): ego Paylos egrapsa tῇ emῇ cheiri, ego apotiso· hina me lego soi hoti kai seauton moi prosopheileis.

Edified Edition (EDE)I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to you how you owe to me even your own self besides.

ἐγὼ Παῦλος ἔγραψα τῇ ἐμῇ χειρί, ἐγὼ ἀποτίσω· ἵνα μὴ λέγω σοι ὅτι καὶ σεαυτόν μοι προσοφείλεις.

Phonetic (Greek): nai, adelphe, ego sou onaimen en kyriῳ· anapauson mou ta splanchna en ⸀Christῷ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Yes, brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: refresh my heart in the Lord.

ναί, ἀδελφέ, ἐγώ σου ὀναίμην ἐν κυρίῳ· ἀνάπαυσόν μου τὰ σπλάγχνα ἐν ⸀Χριστῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): pepoithos tῇ hypakoῇ sou egrapsa soi, eidos hoti kai hyper ⸀ha lego poieseis.

Edified Edition (EDE)Having confidence in your obedience I wrote to you, knowing that you will also do more than I say.

πεποιθὼς τῇ ὑπακοῇ σου ἔγραψά σοι, εἰδὼς ὅτι καὶ ὑπὲρ ⸀ἃ λέγω ποιήσεις.

Phonetic (Greek): hama de kai hetoimaze moi xenian, elpizo gar hoti dia ton proseuchon hymon charisthesomai hymin.

Edified Edition (EDE)But also prepare me a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given to you.

ἅμα δὲ καὶ ἑτοίμαζέ μοι ξενίαν, ἐλπίζω γὰρ ὅτι διὰ τῶν προσευχῶν ὑμῶν χαρισθήσομαι ὑμῖν.

Edified Edition (EDE)There greets you Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
