Edified Edition (EDE)This is the record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:

Edified Edition (EDE)Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh was the father of Amon, and Amon was the father of Josiah;

Edified Edition (EDE)Josiah was the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time they were carried away to Babylon;

Edified Edition (EDE)And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel was the father of Zerubbabel;

Edified Edition (EDE)Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar was the father of Matthan, and Matthan was the father of Jacob;

Ἐλιοὺδ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἐλεάζαρ, Ἐλεάζαρ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ματθάν, Ματθὰν δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἰακώβ,

Edified Edition (EDE)And Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called the Messiah.

Ἰακὼβ δὲ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἰωσὴφ τὸν ἄνδρα Μαρίας, ἐξ ἧς ἐγεννήθη Ἰησοῦς ὁ λεγόμενος χριστός.

Edified Edition (EDE)So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon until the Messiah are fourteen generations.

Πᾶσαι οὖν αἱ γενεαὶ ἀπὸ Ἀβραὰμ ἕως Δαυὶδ γενεαὶ δεκατέσσαρες, καὶ ἀπὸ Δαυὶδ ἕως τῆς μετοικεσίας Βαβυλῶνος γενεαὶ δεκατέσσαρες, καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς μετοικεσίας Βαβυλῶνος ἕως τοῦ χριστοῦ γενεαὶ δεκατέσσαρες.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah was as follows: After His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

Τοῦ δὲ ⸀Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ ἡ ⸀γένεσις οὕτως ἦν. ⸀μνηστευθείσης τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Μαρίας τῷ Ἰωσήφ, πρὶν ἢ συνελθεῖν αὐτοὺς εὑρέθη ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχουσα ἐκ πνεύματος ἁγίου.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἰoseph de ho aner aytes, dikaios on kai me thelon ayten ⸀deigmatisai, eboulethe lathrᾳ apolysai ayten.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Joseph her husband, being a just man and not wanting to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.

Ἰωσὴφ δὲ ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς, δίκαιος ὢν καὶ μὴ θέλων αὐτὴν ⸀δειγματίσαι, ἐβουλήθη λάθρᾳ ἀπολῦσαι αὐτήν.

Phonetic (Greek): tayta de aytoy enthymethentos idoy angelos kyriou katʼ onar ephane aytῷ legon· Ἰoseph yhios Dauid, me phobethῇs paralabein ⸀Marian ten gynaika sou, to gar en aytῇ gennethen ek pneymatos estin hagiou·

Edified Edition (EDE)But while he thought about these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit."

ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐνθυμηθέντος ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος κυρίου κατʼ ὄναρ ἐφάνη αὐτῷ λέγων· Ἰωσὴφ υἱὸς Δαυίδ, μὴ φοβηθῇς παραλαβεῖν ⸀Μαρίαν τὴν γυναῖκά σου, τὸ γὰρ ἐν αὐτῇ γεννηθὲν ἐκ πνεύματός ἐστιν ἁγίου·

Phonetic (Greek): texetai de yhion kai kaleseis to onoma aytoy Ἰesoyn, aytos gar sosei ton laon aytoy apo ton hamartion ayton.

Edified Edition (EDE)"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."

τέξεται δὲ υἱὸν καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦν, αὐτὸς γὰρ σώσει τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): toyto de holon gegonen hina plerothῇ to ῥethen ⸀hypo kyriou dia toy prophetou legontos·

Edified Edition (EDE)Now all this was done so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:

τοῦτο δὲ ὅλον γέγονεν ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν ⸀ὑπὸ κυρίου διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·

Phonetic (Greek): Ἰdoy he parthenos en gastri hexei kai texetai yhion, kai kalesousin to onoma aytoy Ἐmmanouel· ho estin methermeneuomenon Methʼ hemon ho theos.

Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which means, "God with us."

Ἰδοὺ ἡ παρθένος ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξει καὶ τέξεται υἱόν, καὶ καλέσουσιν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἐμμανουήλ· ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον Μεθʼ ἡμῶν ὁ θεός.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀egertheis de ho Ἰoseph apo toy hypnou epoiesen hos prosetaxen aytῷ ho angelos kyriou kai parelaben ten gynaika aytoy·

Edified Edition (EDE)When Joseph woke up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife home.

⸀ἐγερθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰωσὴφ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕπνου ἐποίησεν ὡς προσέταξεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ παρέλαβεν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyk eginosken ayten heos ohy eteken ⸀yhion· kai ekalesen to onoma aytoy Ἰesoyn.

Edified Edition (EDE)But he did not have sexual relations with her until she had brought forth her firstborn Son; and he called His name JESUS.

καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκεν αὐτὴν ἕως οὗ ἔτεκεν ⸀υἱόν· καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦν.
