Edified Edition (EDE)The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Ἀρχὴ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου Ἰησοῦ ⸀χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Kathos gegraptai en ⸂tῷ Ἠsaiᾳ tῷ prophetῃ⸃· ⸀Ἰdoy apostello ton angelon mou pro prosopou sou, hos kataskeuasei ten hodon ⸀sou·

Edified Edition (EDE)As it is written in the Prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You."

⸀Καθὼς γέγραπται ἐν ⸂τῷ Ἠσαΐᾳ τῷ προφήτῃ⸃· ⸀Ἰδοὺ ἀποστέλλω τὸν ἄγγελόν μου πρὸ προσώπου σου, ὃς κατασκευάσει τὴν ὁδόν ⸀σου·

Edified Edition (EDE)The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight."

φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ· Ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου, εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους αὐτοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): egeneto Ἰoannes ⸀ho baptizon en tῇ ⸀eremῳ kerysson baptisma metanoias eis aphesin hamartion.

Edified Edition (EDE)John did baptise in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

ἐγένετο Ἰωάννης ⸀ὁ βαπτίζων ἐν τῇ ⸀ἐρήμῳ κηρύσσων βάπτισμα μετανοίας εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai exeporeyeto pros ayton pasa he Ἰoudaia chora kai ohi Ἱerosolymitai ⸂pantes, kai ebaptizonto⸃ ⸂hypʼ aytoy en tῷ Ἰordanῃ potamῷ⸃ exomologoymenoi tas hamartias ayton.

Edified Edition (EDE)And there went out to him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptised of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν πᾶσα ἡ Ἰουδαία χώρα καὶ οἱ Ἱεροσολυμῖται ⸂πάντες, καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο⸃ ⸂ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ ποταμῷ⸃ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν.

Edified Edition (EDE)And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;

⸂καὶ ἦν⸃ ὁ Ἰωάννης ἐνδεδυμένος τρίχας καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσθων ἀκρίδας καὶ μέλι ἄγριον.

Edified Edition (EDE)And John preached, saying, "There comes one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose."

καὶ ἐκήρυσσεν λέγων· Ἔρχεται ὁ ἰσχυρότερός μου ὀπίσω μου, οὗ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς κύψας λῦσαι τὸν ἱμάντα τῶν ὑποδημάτων αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀ego ebaptisa ⸀hymas hydati, aytos de baptisei hymas ⸀en pneymati hagiῳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)"I indeed baptised you with water, but He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit."

⸀ἐγὼ ἐβάπτισα ⸀ὑμᾶς ὕδατι, αὐτὸς δὲ βαπτίσει ὑμᾶς ⸀ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptised of John in Jordan.

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις ἦλθεν Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ Ναζαρὲτ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη ⸂εἰς τὸν Ἰορδάνην ὑπὸ Ἰωάννου⸃.

Edified Edition (EDE)And immediately coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἀναβαίνων ⸀ἐκ τοῦ ὕδατος εἶδεν σχιζομένους τοὺς οὐρανοὺς καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα ⸀ὡς περιστερὰν καταβαῖνον ⸀εἰς αὐτόν·

Edified Edition (EDE)Then a voice came from heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

καὶ φωνὴ ἐγένετο ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν· Σὺ εἶ ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν ⸀σοὶ εὐδόκησα.

Edified Edition (EDE)Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.

Καὶ εὐθὺς τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτὸν ἐκβάλλει εἰς τὴν ἔρημον.

Edified Edition (EDE)And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

καὶ ⸀ἦν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ⸂τεσσεράκοντα ἡμέρας⸃ πειραζόμενος ὑπὸ τοῦ Σατανᾶ, καὶ ἦν μετὰ τῶν θηρίων, καὶ οἱ ἄγγελοι διηκόνουν αὐτῷ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

Edified Edition (EDE)saying, [JESUS]"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."[/JESUS]

καὶ λέγων ὅτι Πεπλήρωται ὁ καιρὸς καὶ ἤγγικεν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ· μετανοεῖτε καὶ πιστεύετε ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Kai paragon⸃ para ten thalassan tes Galilaias eiden Simona kai Ἀndrean ton ⸀adelphon Simonos ⸀amphiballontas en tῇ thalassῃ, esan gar halieis·

Edified Edition (EDE)Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

⸂Καὶ παράγων⸃ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶδεν Σίμωνα καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ⸀ἀδελφὸν Σίμωνος ⸀ἀμφιβάλλοντας ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς·

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."[/JESUS]

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου, καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς γενέσθαι ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων.

Edified Edition (EDE)They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

Edified Edition (EDE)And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

καὶ ⸀προβὰς ὀλίγον εἶδεν Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀eythys ekalesen aytoys. kai aphentes ton patera ayton Zebedaion en tῷ ploiῳ meta ton misthoton apelthon opiso aytoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)And immediately he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς. καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν Ζεβεδαῖον ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ μετὰ τῶν μισθωτῶν ἀπῆλθον ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai eisporeyontai eis Kapharnaoym. kai ⸀eythys tois sabbasin ⸂edidasken eis ten synagogen⸃.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.

Καὶ εἰσπορεύονται εἰς Καφαρναούμ. καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς τοῖς σάββασιν ⸂ἐδίδασκεν εἰς τὴν συναγωγήν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai exeplessonto epi tῇ didachῇ aytoy, en gar didaskon aytoys hos exousian echon kai oych hos ohi grammateis.

Edified Edition (EDE)And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

καὶ ἐξεπλήσσοντο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ, ἦν γὰρ διδάσκων αὐτοὺς ὡς ἐξουσίαν ἔχων καὶ οὐχ ὡς οἱ γραμματεῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀eythys en en tῇ synagogῇ ayton anthropos en pneymati akathartῳ kai anekraxen

Edified Edition (EDE)And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἦν ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ αὐτῶν ἄνθρωπος ἐν πνεύματι ἀκαθάρτῳ καὶ ἀνέκραξεν

Phonetic (Greek): legon· ⸀Ti hemin kai soi, Ἰesoy Nazarene; elthes apolesai hemas; oida se tis ei, ho hagios toy theoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, "Let us alone; what have we to do with you, you Jesus of Nazareth? are you come to destroy us? I know you who you are, the Holy One of God."

λέγων· ⸀Τί ἡμῖν καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ Ναζαρηνέ; ἦλθες ἀπολέσαι ἡμᾶς; οἶδά σε τίς εἶ, ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epetimesen aytῷ ho Ἰesoys legon· Phimotheti kai exelthe ex aytoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus rebuked him, saying, [JESUS]"Be quiet, and come out of him!"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· Φιμώθητι καὶ ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ.

Edified Edition (EDE)And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

καὶ σπαράξαν αὐτὸν τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἀκάθαρτον καὶ ⸀φωνῆσαν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἐξῆλθεν ἐξ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ethambethesan ⸀hapantes, hoste syzetein ⸂pros heautoys⸃ legontas· Ti estin toyto; ⸂didache kaine⸃· katʼ exousian kai tois pneymasi tois akathartois epitassei, kai hypakoyousin aytῷ.

Edified Edition (EDE)And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commands he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him."

καὶ ἐθαμβήθησαν ⸀ἅπαντες, ὥστε συζητεῖν ⸂πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς⸃ λέγοντας· Τί ἐστιν τοῦτο; ⸂διδαχὴ καινή⸃· κατʼ ἐξουσίαν καὶ τοῖς πνεύμασι τοῖς ἀκαθάρτοις ἐπιτάσσει, καὶ ὑπακούουσιν αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂kai exelthen⸃ he akoe aytoy eythys ⸀pantachoy eis holen ten perichoron tes Galilaias.

Edified Edition (EDE)And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

⸂καὶ ἐξῆλθεν⸃ ἡ ἀκοὴ αὐτοῦ εὐθὺς ⸀πανταχοῦ εἰς ὅλην τὴν περίχωρον τῆς Γαλιλαίας.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai ⸀eythys ek tes synagoges ⸂exelthontes elthon⸃ eis ten oikian Simonos kai Ἀndreou meta Ἰakobou kai Ἰoannou.

Edified Edition (EDE)And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

Καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἐκ τῆς συναγωγῆς ⸂ἐξελθόντες ἦλθον⸃ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν Σίμωνος καὶ Ἀνδρέου μετὰ Ἰακώβου καὶ Ἰωάννου.

Edified Edition (EDE)But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

ἡ δὲ πενθερὰ Σίμωνος κατέκειτο πυρέσσουσα, καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς λέγουσιν αὐτῷ περὶ αὐτῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai proselthon egeiren ayten kratesas tes ⸀cheiros· kai apheken ayten ho ⸀pyretos, kai diekonei aytois.

Edified Edition (EDE)And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered to them.

καὶ προσελθὼν ἤγειρεν αὐτὴν κρατήσας τῆς ⸀χειρός· καὶ ἀφῆκεν αὐτὴν ὁ ⸀πυρετός, καὶ διηκόνει αὐτοῖς.

Edified Edition (EDE)And at even, when the sun did set, they brought to him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with demons.

Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης, ὅτε ⸀ἔδυ ὁ ἥλιος, ἔφερον πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας καὶ τοὺς δαιμονιζομένους·

Edified Edition (EDE)And all the city was gathered together at the door.

καὶ ⸂ἦν ὅλη ἡ πόλις ἐπισυνηγμένη⸃ πρὸς τὴν θύραν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai etherapeusen polloys kakos echontas poikilais nosois, kai daimonia polla exebalen, kai oyk ephien lalein ta daimonia, hoti edeisan ⸀ayton.

Edified Edition (EDE)And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him.

καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν πολλοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις, καὶ δαιμόνια πολλὰ ἐξέβαλεν, καὶ οὐκ ἤφιεν λαλεῖν τὰ δαιμόνια, ὅτι ᾔδεισαν ⸀αὐτόν.

Edified Edition (EDE)And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Καὶ πρωῒ ἔννυχα λίαν ἀναστὰς ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς ἔρημον τόπον κἀκεῖ προσηύχετο.

Edified Edition (EDE)And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

καὶ ⸀κατεδίωξεν αὐτὸν ⸀Σίμων καὶ οἱ μετʼ αὐτοῦ,

Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had found him, they said to him, "All men seek for you."

καὶ ⸂εὗρον αὐτὸν καὶ⸃ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ ὅτι Πάντες ⸂ζητοῦσίν σε⸃.

Edified Edition (EDE)But He said to them, [JESUS]"Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth."[/JESUS]

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ἄγωμεν ⸀ἀλλαχοῦ εἰς τὰς ἐχομένας κωμοπόλεις, ἵνα καὶ ἐκεῖ κηρύξω, εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ ⸀ἐξῆλθον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀elthen kerysson ⸂eis tas synagogas⸃ ayton eis holen ten Galilaian kai ta daimonia ekballon.

Edified Edition (EDE)And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out demons.

καὶ ⸀ἦλθεν κηρύσσων ⸂εἰς τὰς συναγωγὰς⸃ αὐτῶν εἰς ὅλην τὴν Γαλιλαίαν καὶ τὰ δαιμόνια ἐκβάλλων.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai erchetai pros ayton lepros parakalon ayton kai ⸀gonypeton legon aytῷ hoti Ἐan thelῃs dynasai me katharisai.

Edified Edition (EDE)And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying to him, "If you will, you can make me clean."

Καὶ ἔρχεται πρὸς αὐτὸν λεπρὸς παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν καὶ ⸀γονυπετῶν λέγων αὐτῷ ὅτι Ἐὰν θέλῃς δύνασαί με καθαρίσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai ⸀orgistheis ekteinas ten cheira ⸂aytoy hepsato⸃ kai legei aytῷ· Thelo, katharistheti·

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, [JESUS]"I am willing; be cleansed."[/JESUS]

⸀καὶ ⸀ὀργισθεὶς ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα ⸂αὐτοῦ ἥψατο⸃ καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Θέλω, καθαρίσθητι·

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀eythys apelthen apʼ aytoy he lepra, kai ekatharisthe.

Edified Edition (EDE)And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἀπῆλθεν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ ἡ λέπρα, καὶ ἐκαθαρίσθη.

Edified Edition (EDE)And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;

καὶ ἐμβριμησάμενος αὐτῷ ⸀εὐθὺς ἐξέβαλεν αὐτόν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai legei aytῷ· Ὅra medeni meden eipῃs, alla hypage seauton deixon tῷ hierei kai prosenenke peri toy katharismoy sou ha prosetaxen Moyses eis martyrion aytois.

Edified Edition (EDE)And says to him, [JESUS]"See you say nothing to any man: but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."[/JESUS]

καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Ὅρα μηδενὶ μηδὲν εἴπῃς, ἀλλὰ ὕπαγε σεαυτὸν δεῖξον τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ προσένεγκε περὶ τοῦ καθαρισμοῦ σου ἃ προσέταξεν Μωϋσῆς εἰς μαρτύριον αὐτοῖς.

Edified Edition (EDE)But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.

ὁ δὲ ἐξελθὼν ἤρξατο κηρύσσειν πολλὰ καὶ διαφημίζειν τὸν λόγον, ὥστε μηκέτι αὐτὸν δύνασθαι φανερῶς εἰς πόλιν εἰσελθεῖν, ἀλλὰ ἔξω ⸀ἐπʼ ἐρήμοις τόποις ἦν· καὶ ἤρχοντο πρὸς αὐτὸν ⸀πάντοθεν.
