Chapter 1

Edified Edition (EDE)Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Ἰούδας Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ δοῦλος, ἀδελφὸς δὲ Ἰακώβου, τοῖς ἐν θεῷ πατρὶ ⸀ἠγαπημένοις καὶ Ἰησοῦ Χριστῷ τετηρημένοις κλητοῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): eleos hymin kai eirene kai agape plethyntheie.

Edified Edition (EDE)Mercy to you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

ἔλεος ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη καὶ ἀγάπη πληθυνθείη.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapetoi, pasan spouden poioymenos graphein hymin peri tes koines ⸀hemon soterias ananken eschon grapsai hymin parakalon epagonizesthai tῇ hapax paradotheisῃ tois hagiois pistei.

Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write to you of the common salvation, it was necessary for me to write to you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.

Ἀγαπητοί, πᾶσαν σπουδὴν ποιούμενος γράφειν ὑμῖν περὶ τῆς κοινῆς ⸀ἡμῶν σωτηρίας ἀνάγκην ἔσχον γράψαι ὑμῖν παρακαλῶν ἐπαγωνίζεσθαι τῇ ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ τοῖς ἁγίοις πίστει.

Phonetic (Greek): pareisedysan gar tines anthropoi, ohi palai progegrammenoi eis toyto to krima, asebeis, ten toy theoy hemon charita metatithentes eis aselgeian kai ton monon ⸀despoten kai kyrion hemon Ἰesoyn Christon arnoymenoi.

Edified Edition (EDE)For there are certain people crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly people, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

παρεισέδυσαν γάρ τινες ἄνθρωποι, οἱ πάλαι προγεγραμμένοι εἰς τοῦτο τὸ κρίμα, ἀσεβεῖς, τὴν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν χάριτα μετατιθέντες εἰς ἀσέλγειαν καὶ τὸν μόνον ⸀δεσπότην καὶ κύριον ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἀρνούμενοι.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὑpomnesai de hymas boylomai, eidotas ⸂hymas hapax⸃ ⸀panta, hoti ⸀Ἰesoys laon ek ges Aigyptou sosas to deyteron toys me pisteysantas apolesen,

Edified Edition (EDE)I will therefore put you in remembrance, though you once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who believed not.

Ὑπομνῆσαι δὲ ὑμᾶς βούλομαι, εἰδότας ⸂ὑμᾶς ἅπαξ⸃ ⸀πάντα, ὅτι ⸀Ἰησοῦς λαὸν ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου σώσας τὸ δεύτερον τοὺς μὴ πιστεύσαντας ἀπώλεσεν,

Phonetic (Greek): angelous te toys me teresantas ten heauton archen alla apolipontas to idion oiketerion eis krisin megales hemeras desmois aidiois hypo zophon tetereken·

Edified Edition (EDE)And the angels who kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness to the judgement of the great day.

ἀγγέλους τε τοὺς μὴ τηρήσαντας τὴν ἑαυτῶν ἀρχὴν ἀλλὰ ἀπολιπόντας τὸ ἴδιον οἰκητήριον εἰς κρίσιν μεγάλης ἡμέρας δεσμοῖς ἀϊδίοις ὑπὸ ζόφον τετήρηκεν·

Phonetic (Greek): hos Sodoma kai Gomorra kai ahi peri aytas poleis, ton homoion ⸂tropon toytois⸃ ekporneysasai kai apelthoysai opiso sarkos heteras, prokeintai deigma pyros aioniou diken hypechousai.

Edified Edition (EDE)Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

ὡς Σόδομα καὶ Γόμορρα καὶ αἱ περὶ αὐτὰς πόλεις, τὸν ὅμοιον ⸂τρόπον τούτοις⸃ ἐκπορνεύσασαι καὶ ἀπελθοῦσαι ὀπίσω σαρκὸς ἑτέρας, πρόκεινται δεῖγμα πυρὸς αἰωνίου δίκην ὑπέχουσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὁmoios mentoi kai ohytoi enypniazomenoi sarka men miainousin, kyrioteta de athetoysin, doxas de blasphemoysin.

Edified Edition (EDE)Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

Ὁμοίως μέντοι καὶ οὗτοι ἐνυπνιαζόμενοι σάρκα μὲν μιαίνουσιν, κυριότητα δὲ ἀθετοῦσιν, δόξας δὲ βλασφημοῦσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de Michael ho archangelos, hote tῷ diabolῳ diakrinomenos dielegeto peri toy Moyseos somatos, oyk etolmesen krisin epenenkein blasphemias, alla eipen· Ἐpitimesai soi kyrios.

Edified Edition (EDE)Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."

ὁ δὲ Μιχαὴλ ὁ ἀρχάγγελος, ὅτε τῷ διαβόλῳ διακρινόμενος διελέγετο περὶ τοῦ Μωϋσέως σώματος, οὐκ ἐτόλμησεν κρίσιν ἐπενεγκεῖν βλασφημίας, ἀλλὰ εἶπεν· Ἐπιτιμήσαι σοι κύριος.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytoi de hosa men oyk oidasin blasphemoysin, hosa de physikos hos ta aloga zῷa epistantai, en toytois phtheirontai.

Edified Edition (EDE)But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

οὗτοι δὲ ὅσα μὲν οὐκ οἴδασιν βλασφημοῦσιν, ὅσα δὲ φυσικῶς ὡς τὰ ἄλογα ζῷα ἐπίστανται, ἐν τούτοις φθείρονται.

Phonetic (Greek): oyai aytois, hoti tῇ hodῷ toy Kain eporeythesan, kai tῇ planῃ toy Balaam misthoy exechythesan, kai tῇ antilogiᾳ toy Kore apolonto.

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς, ὅτι τῇ ὁδῷ τοῦ Κάϊν ἐπορεύθησαν, καὶ τῇ πλάνῃ τοῦ Βαλαὰμ μισθοῦ ἐξεχύθησαν, καὶ τῇ ἀντιλογίᾳ τοῦ Κόρε ἀπώλοντο.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytoi eisin ⸀ohi en tais agapais hymon spilades syneuochoymenoi, aphobos heautoys poimainontes, nephelai anydroi hypo anemon parapheromenai, dendra phthinoporina akarpa dis apothanonta ekrizothenta,

Edified Edition (EDE)These are spots in your feasts of love, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about with winds; trees whose fruit withers, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

οὗτοί εἰσιν ⸀οἱ ἐν ταῖς ἀγάπαις ὑμῶν σπιλάδες συνευωχούμενοι, ἀφόβως ἑαυτοὺς ποιμαίνοντες, νεφέλαι ἄνυδροι ὑπὸ ἀνέμων παραφερόμεναι, δένδρα φθινοπωρινὰ ἄκαρπα δὶς ἀποθανόντα ἐκριζωθέντα,

Phonetic (Greek): kymata agria thalasses epaphrizonta tas heauton aischynas, asteres planetai ohis ho zophos toy skotous eis aiona teteretai.

Edified Edition (EDE)Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

κύματα ἄγρια θαλάσσης ἐπαφρίζοντα τὰς ἑαυτῶν αἰσχύνας, ἀστέρες πλανῆται οἷς ὁ ζόφος τοῦ σκότους εἰς αἰῶνα τετήρηται.

Phonetic (Greek): Proepheteusen de kai toytois hebdomos apo Ἀdam Ἑnoch legon· Ἰdoy elthen kyrios en hagiais myriasin aytoy,

Edified Edition (EDE)And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,

Προεφήτευσεν δὲ καὶ τούτοις ἕβδομος ἀπὸ Ἀδὰμ Ἑνὼχ λέγων· Ἰδοὺ ἦλθεν κύριος ἐν ἁγίαις μυριάσιν αὐτοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): poiesai krisin kata panton kai elenxai ⸂pantas toys asebeis⸃ peri panton ton ergon asebeias ayton hon esebesan kai peri panton ton skleron hon elalesan katʼ aytoy hamartoloi asebeis.

Edified Edition (EDE)To execute judgement upon all, and to convict all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."

ποιῆσαι κρίσιν κατὰ πάντων καὶ ἐλέγξαι ⸂πάντας τοὺς ἀσεβεῖς⸃ περὶ πάντων τῶν ἔργων ἀσεβείας αὐτῶν ὧν ἠσέβησαν καὶ περὶ πάντων τῶν σκληρῶν ὧν ἐλάλησαν κατʼ αὐτοῦ ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀσεβεῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytoi eisin gongystai, mempsimoiroi, kata tas epithymias ⸀ayton poreuomenoi, kai to stoma ayton lalei hyperonka, thaumazontes prosopa opheleias charin.

Edified Edition (EDE)These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaks great swelling words, having people’s persons in admiration because of advantage.

οὗτοί εἰσιν γογγυσταί, μεμψίμοιροι, κατὰ τὰς ἐπιθυμίας ⸀αὐτῶν πορευόμενοι, καὶ τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν λαλεῖ ὑπέρογκα, θαυμάζοντες πρόσωπα ὠφελείας χάριν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὑmeis de, agapetoi, mnesthete ton ῥematon ton proeiremenon hypo ton apostolon toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy·

Edified Edition (EDE)But, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Ὑμεῖς δέ, ἀγαπητοί, μνήσθητε τῶν ῥημάτων τῶν προειρημένων ὑπὸ τῶν ἀποστόλων τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): hoti elegon ⸀hymin· ⸂Ἐpʼ eschatou chronou⸃ esontai empaiktai kata tas heauton epithymias poreuomenoi ton asebeion.

Edified Edition (EDE)How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

ὅτι ἔλεγον ⸀ὑμῖν· ⸂Ἐπʼ ἐσχάτου χρόνου⸃ ἔσονται ἐμπαῖκται κατὰ τὰς ἑαυτῶν ἐπιθυμίας πορευόμενοι τῶν ἀσεβειῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytoi eisin ohi apodiorizontes, psychikoi, pneyma me echontes.

Edified Edition (EDE)These be those who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ ἀποδιορίζοντες, ψυχικοί, πνεῦμα μὴ ἔχοντες.

Phonetic (Greek): hymeis de, agapetoi, ⸂epoikodomoyntes heautoys tῇ hagiotatῃ hymon pistei⸃, en pneymati hagiῳ proseuchomenoi,

Edified Edition (EDE)But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

ὑμεῖς δέ, ἀγαπητοί, ⸂ἐποικοδομοῦντες ἑαυτοὺς τῇ ἁγιωτάτῃ ὑμῶν πίστει⸃, ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ προσευχόμενοι,

Phonetic (Greek): heautoys en agapῃ theoy teresate prosdechomenoi to eleos toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy eis zoen aionion.

Edified Edition (EDE)Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

ἑαυτοὺς ἐν ἀγάπῃ θεοῦ τηρήσατε προσδεχόμενοι τὸ ἔλεος τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ohys men ⸀eleate ⸂diakrinomenous,

Edified Edition (EDE)And of some have compassion, making a difference:

καὶ οὓς μὲν ⸀ἐλεᾶτε ⸂διακρινομένους,

Phonetic (Greek): ohys de sῴzete ek pyros harpazontes, ohys de eleate en phobῳ⸃, misoyntes kai ton apo tes sarkos espilomenon chitona.

Edified Edition (EDE)And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

οὓς δὲ σῴζετε ἐκ πυρὸς ἁρπάζοντες, οὓς δὲ ἐλεᾶτε ἐν φόβῳ⸃, μισοῦντες καὶ τὸν ἀπὸ τῆς σαρκὸς ἐσπιλωμένον χιτῶνα.

Phonetic (Greek): Tῷ de dynamenῳ phylaxai ⸀hymas aptaistous kai stesai katenopion tes doxes aytoy amomous en agalliasei

Edified Edition (EDE)Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,

Τῷ δὲ δυναμένῳ φυλάξαι ⸀ὑμᾶς ἀπταίστους καὶ στῆσαι κατενώπιον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ ἀμώμους ἐν ἀγαλλιάσει

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀monῳ theῷ soteri hemon ⸂dia Ἰesoy Christoy toy kyriou hemon⸃ ⸀doxa megalosyne kratos kai exousia ⸂pro pantos toy aionos⸃ kai nyn kai eis pantas toys aionas· amen.

Edified Edition (EDE)To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

⸀μόνῳ θεῷ σωτῆρι ἡμῶν ⸂διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν⸃ ⸀δόξα μεγαλωσύνη κράτος καὶ ἐξουσία ⸂πρὸ παντὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος⸃ καὶ νῦν καὶ εἰς πάντας τοὺς αἰῶνας· ἀμήν.
