Galatians

Chapter 1

Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead),

Παῦλος ἀπόστολος, οὐκ ἀπʼ ἀνθρώπων οὐδὲ διʼ ἀνθρώπου ἀλλὰ διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ θεοῦ πατρὸς τοῦ ἐγείραντος αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ohi syn emoi pantes adelphoi, tais ekklesiais tes Galatias·

Edified Edition (EDE)and all the brothers who are with me, to the churches of Galatia:

καὶ οἱ σὺν ἐμοὶ πάντες ἀδελφοί, ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Γαλατίας·

Phonetic (Greek): charis hymin kai eirene apo theoy patros ⸂kai kyriou hemon⸃ Ἰesoy Christoy,

Edified Edition (EDE)Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ,

χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ⸂καὶ κυρίου ἡμῶν⸃ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): toy dontos heauton ⸀hyper ton hamartion hemon hopos exeletai hemas ek toy ⸂aionos toy enestotos⸃ poneroy kata to thelema toy theoy kai patros hemon,

Edified Edition (EDE)who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

τοῦ δόντος ἑαυτὸν ⸀ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν ὅπως ἐξέληται ἡμᾶς ἐκ τοῦ ⸂αἰῶνος τοῦ ἐνεστῶτος⸃ πονηροῦ κατὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): ho he doxa eis toys aionas ton aionon· amen.

Edified Edition (EDE)to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων· ἀμήν.

Phonetic (Greek): Thaumazo hoti ohytos tacheos metatithesthe apo toy kalesantos hymas en chariti Christoy eis heteron eyangelion,

Edified Edition (EDE)I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,

Θαυμάζω ὅτι οὕτως ταχέως μετατίθεσθε ἀπὸ τοῦ καλέσαντος ὑμᾶς ἐν χάριτι Χριστοῦ εἰς ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον,

Phonetic (Greek): ho oyk estin allo· ei me tines eisin ohi tarassontes hymas kai thelontes metastrepsai to eyangelion toy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.

ὃ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλο· εἰ μή τινές εἰσιν οἱ ταράσσοντες ὑμᾶς καὶ θέλοντες μεταστρέψαι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): alla kai ean hemeis e angelos ex oyranoy ⸀eyangelizetai ⸀hymin parʼ ho eyengelisametha hymin, anathema esto.

Edified Edition (EDE)But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐὰν ἡμεῖς ἢ ἄγγελος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ⸀εὐαγγελίζηται ⸀ὑμῖν παρʼ ὃ εὐηγγελισάμεθα ὑμῖν, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω.

Phonetic (Greek): hos proeirekamen, kai arti palin lego, ei tis hymas eyangelizetai parʼ ho parelabete, anathema esto.

Edified Edition (EDE)As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

ὡς προειρήκαμεν, καὶ ἄρτι πάλιν λέγω, εἴ τις ὑμᾶς εὐαγγελίζεται παρʼ ὃ παρελάβετε, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἄrti gar anthropous peitho e ton theon; e zeto anthropois areskein; ⸀ei eti anthropois ereskon, Christoy doylos oyk an emen.

Edified Edition (EDE)For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Ἄρτι γὰρ ἀνθρώπους πείθω ἢ τὸν θεόν; ἢ ζητῶ ἀνθρώποις ἀρέσκειν; ⸀εἰ ἔτι ἀνθρώποις ἤρεσκον, Χριστοῦ δοῦλος οὐκ ἂν ἤμην.

Phonetic (Greek): Gnorizo ⸀gar hymin, adelphoi, to eyangelion to eyangelisthen hypʼ emoy hoti oyk estin kata anthropon·

Edified Edition (EDE)But I make known to you, brothers, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.

Γνωρίζω ⸀γὰρ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοί, τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν ὑπʼ ἐμοῦ ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν κατὰ ἄνθρωπον·

Phonetic (Greek): oyde gar ego para anthropou parelabon ayto, ⸀oyte edidachthen, alla diʼ apokalypseos Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

οὐδὲ γὰρ ἐγὼ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου παρέλαβον αὐτό, ⸀οὔτε ἐδιδάχθην, ἀλλὰ διʼ ἀποκαλύψεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἠkoysate gar ten emen anastrophen pote en tῷ Ἰoudaismῷ, hoti kathʼ hyperbolen ediokon ten ekklesian toy theoy kai eporthoun ayten,

Edified Edition (EDE)For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it.

Ἠκούσατε γὰρ τὴν ἐμὴν ἀναστροφήν ποτε ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ, ὅτι καθʼ ὑπερβολὴν ἐδίωκον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐπόρθουν αὐτήν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai proekopton en tῷ Ἰoudaismῷ hyper polloys synelikiotas en tῷ genei mou, perissoteros zelotes hyparchon ton patrikon mou paradoseon.

Edified Edition (EDE)And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

καὶ προέκοπτον ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ ὑπὲρ πολλοὺς συνηλικιώτας ἐν τῷ γένει μου, περισσοτέρως ζηλωτὴς ὑπάρχων τῶν πατρικῶν μου παραδόσεων.

Phonetic (Greek): hote de ⸀eydokesen ho aphorisas me ek koilias metros mou kai kalesas dia tes charitos aytoy

Edified Edition (EDE)But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace,

ὅτε δὲ ⸀εὐδόκησεν ὁ ἀφορίσας με ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου καὶ καλέσας διὰ τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ

Phonetic (Greek): apokalypsai ton yhion aytoy en emoi hina eyangelizomai ayton en tois ethnesin, eytheos oy prosanethemen sarki kai ahimati,

Edified Edition (EDE)to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,

ἀποκαλύψαι τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐμοὶ ἵνα εὐαγγελίζωμαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, εὐθέως οὐ προσανεθέμην σαρκὶ καὶ αἵματι,

Phonetic (Greek): oyde anelthon eis Ἱerosolyma pros toys pro emoy apostolous, alla apelthon eis Ἀrabian, kai palin hypestrepsa eis Damaskon.

Edified Edition (EDE)nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.

οὐδὲ ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα πρὸς τοὺς πρὸ ἐμοῦ ἀποστόλους, ἀλλὰ ἀπῆλθον εἰς Ἀραβίαν, καὶ πάλιν ὑπέστρεψα εἰς Δαμασκόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἔpeita meta ⸂ete tria⸃ anelthon eis Ἱerosolyma historesai ⸀Kephan, kai epemeina pros ayton hemeras dekapente·

Edified Edition (EDE)Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.

Ἔπειτα μετὰ ⸂ἔτη τρία⸃ ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἱστορῆσαι ⸀Κηφᾶν, καὶ ἐπέμεινα πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡμέρας δεκαπέντε·

Phonetic (Greek): heteron de ton apostolon oyk eidon, ei me Ἰakobon ton adelphon toy kyriou.

Edified Edition (EDE)But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother.

ἕτερον δὲ τῶν ἀποστόλων οὐκ εἶδον, εἰ μὴ Ἰάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ κυρίου.

Phonetic (Greek): ha de grapho hymin, idoy enopion toy theoy hoti oy pseydomai.

Edified Edition (EDE)(Now concerning the things which I write to you, indeed, before God, I do not lie.)

ἃ δὲ γράφω ὑμῖν, ἰδοὺ ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι οὐ ψεύδομαι.

Phonetic (Greek): epeita elthon eis ta klimata tes Syrias kai tes Kilikias.

Edified Edition (EDE)Afterward I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.

ἔπειτα ἦλθον εἰς τὰ κλίματα τῆς Συρίας καὶ τῆς Κιλικίας.

Phonetic (Greek): emen de agnooymenos tῷ prosopῳ tais ekklesiais tes Ἰoudaias tais en Christῷ,

Edified Edition (EDE)And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ.

ἤμην δὲ ἀγνοούμενος τῷ προσώπῳ ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Ἰουδαίας ταῖς ἐν Χριστῷ,

Phonetic (Greek): monon de akoyontes esan hoti Ὁ diokon hemas pote nyn eyangelizetai ten pistin hen pote eporthei,

Edified Edition (EDE)But they were hearing only, "He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy."

μόνον δὲ ἀκούοντες ἦσαν ὅτι Ὁ διώκων ἡμᾶς ποτε νῦν εὐαγγελίζεται τὴν πίστιν ἥν ποτε ἐπόρθει,

Phonetic (Greek): kai edoxazon en emoi ton theon.

Edified Edition (EDE)And they glorified God in me.

καὶ ἐδόξαζον ἐν ἐμοὶ τὸν θεόν.
