Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ presbyteros Gaiῳ tῷ agapetῷ, hon ego agapo en aletheiᾳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)The elder to the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

Ὁ πρεσβύτερος Γαΐῳ τῷ ἀγαπητῷ, ὃν ἐγὼ ἀγαπῶ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapete, peri panton eychomai se eyodoysthai kai hygiainein, kathos eyodoytai sou he psyche.

Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

Ἀγαπητέ, περὶ πάντων εὔχομαί σε εὐοδοῦσθαι καὶ ὑγιαίνειν, καθὼς εὐοδοῦταί σου ἡ ψυχή.

Phonetic (Greek): echaren gar lian erchomenon adelphon kai martyroynton sou tῇ aletheiᾳ, kathos sy en aletheiᾳ peripateis.

Edified Edition (EDE)For I rejoiced greatly, when the brothers came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.

ἐχάρην γὰρ λίαν ἐρχομένων ἀδελφῶν καὶ μαρτυρούντων σου τῇ ἀληθείᾳ, καθὼς σὺ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ περιπατεῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): meizoteran toyton oyk echo ⸀charan, hina akoyo ta ema tekna en ⸀tῇ aletheiᾳ peripatoynta.

Edified Edition (EDE)I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

μειζοτέραν τούτων οὐκ ἔχω ⸀χαράν, ἵνα ἀκούω τὰ ἐμὰ τέκνα ἐν ⸀τῇ ἀληθείᾳ περιπατοῦντα.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapete, piston poieis ho ean ergasῃ eis toys adelphoys kai ⸀toyto xenous,

Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do to the brothers, and to strangers;

Ἀγαπητέ, πιστὸν ποιεῖς ὃ ἐὰν ἐργάσῃ εἰς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ ⸀τοῦτο ξένους,

Phonetic (Greek): ohi emartyresan sou tῇ agapῃ enopion ekklesias, ohys kalos poieseis propempsas axios toy theoy·

Edified Edition (EDE)Who have borne witness of your love before the church: whom if you bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, you shall do well:

οἳ ἐμαρτύρησάν σου τῇ ἀγάπῃ ἐνώπιον ἐκκλησίας, οὓς καλῶς ποιήσεις προπέμψας ἀξίως τοῦ θεοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): hyper gar toy onomatos exelthon meden lambanontes apo ton ⸀ethnikon.

Edified Edition (EDE)Because that for His name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

ὑπὲρ γὰρ τοῦ ὀνόματος ἐξῆλθον μηδὲν λαμβάνοντες ἀπὸ τῶν ⸀ἐθνικῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): hemeis oyn opheilomen ⸀hypolambanein toys toioytous, hina synergoi ginometha tῇ aletheiᾳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

ἡμεῖς οὖν ὀφείλομεν ⸀ὑπολαμβάνειν τοὺς τοιούτους, ἵνα συνεργοὶ γινώμεθα τῇ ἀληθείᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἔgrapsa ⸀ti tῇ ekklesiᾳ· allʼ ho philoproteyon ayton Diotrephes oyk epidechetai hemas.

Edified Edition (EDE)I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not.

Ἔγραψά ⸀τι τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ· ἀλλʼ ὁ φιλοπρωτεύων αὐτῶν Διοτρέφης οὐκ ἐπιδέχεται ἡμᾶς.

Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto, ean eltho, hypomneso aytoy ta erga ha poiei, logois ponerois phlyaron hemas, kai me arkoymenos epi toytois oyte aytos epidechetai toys adelphoys kai toys boulomenous kolyei kai ek tes ekklesias ekballei.

Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, talking against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither does he himself receive the brothers, and forbids those who would, and casts them out of the church.

διὰ τοῦτο, ἐὰν ἔλθω, ὑπομνήσω αὐτοῦ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ποιεῖ, λόγοις πονηροῖς φλυαρῶν ἡμᾶς, καὶ μὴ ἀρκούμενος ἐπὶ τούτοις οὔτε αὐτὸς ἐπιδέχεται τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τοὺς βουλομένους κωλύει καὶ ἐκ τῆς ἐκκλησίας ἐκβάλλει.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapete, me mimoy to kakon alla to agathon. ho agathopoion ek toy theoy estin· ho kakopoion oych heoraken ton theon.

Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God: but he who does evil has not seen God.

Ἀγαπητέ, μὴ μιμοῦ τὸ κακὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ἀγαθόν. ὁ ἀγαθοποιῶν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν· ὁ κακοποιῶν οὐχ ἑώρακεν τὸν θεόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Demetriῳ memartyretai hypo panton kai hypo aytes tes aletheias· kai hemeis de martyroymen, kai ⸀oidas hoti he martyria hemon alethes estin.

Edified Edition (EDE)Demetrius has a good report of all people, and of the truth itself: yes, and we also bear record; and you know that our record is true.

Δημητρίῳ μεμαρτύρηται ὑπὸ πάντων καὶ ὑπὸ αὐτῆς τῆς ἀληθείας· καὶ ἡμεῖς δὲ μαρτυροῦμεν, καὶ ⸀οἶδας ὅτι ἡ μαρτυρία ἡμῶν ἀληθής ἐστιν.

Phonetic (Greek): Polla eichon ⸂grapsai soi⸃, allʼ oy thelo dia melanos kai kalamou soi ⸀graphein·

Edified Edition (EDE)I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write to you:

Πολλὰ εἶχον ⸂γράψαι σοι⸃, ἀλλʼ οὐ θέλω διὰ μέλανος καὶ καλάμου σοι ⸀γράφειν·

Phonetic (Greek): elpizo de eytheos ⸂se idein⸃, kai stoma pros stoma lalesomen.

Edified Edition (EDE)But I trust I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.

ἐλπίζω δὲ εὐθέως ⸂σε ἰδεῖν⸃, καὶ στόμα πρὸς στόμα λαλήσομεν.

Εἰρήνη σοι. ἀσπάζονταί σε οἱ φίλοι. ἀσπάζου τοὺς φίλους κατʼ ὄνομα.
