Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Edified Edition (EDE)To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Τιμοθέῳ ἀγαπητῷ τέκνῳ· χάρις, ἔλεος, εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): Charin echo tῷ theῷ, ho latreyo apo progonon en katharᾷ syneidesei, hos adialeipton echo ten peri soy mneian en tais deesesin mou, nyktos kai hemeras

Edified Edition (EDE)I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of you in my prayers night and day;

Χάριν ἔχω τῷ θεῷ, ᾧ λατρεύω ἀπὸ προγόνων ἐν καθαρᾷ συνειδήσει, ὡς ἀδιάλειπτον ἔχω τὴν περὶ σοῦ μνείαν ἐν ταῖς δεήσεσίν μου, νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας

Phonetic (Greek): epipothon se idein, memnemenos sou ton dakryon, hina charas plerotho

Edified Edition (EDE)Greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy;

ἐπιποθῶν σε ἰδεῖν, μεμνημένος σου τῶν δακρύων, ἵνα χαρᾶς πληρωθῶ

Phonetic (Greek): hypomnesin ⸀labon tes en soi anypokritou pisteos, hetis enῴkesen proton en tῇ mammῃ sou Loidi kai tῇ metri sou Eynikῃ, pepeismai de hoti kai en soi.

Edified Edition (EDE)When I call to remembrance the sincere faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in you also.

ὑπόμνησιν ⸀λαβὼν τῆς ἐν σοὶ ἀνυποκρίτου πίστεως, ἥτις ἐνῴκησεν πρῶτον ἐν τῇ μάμμῃ σου Λωΐδι καὶ τῇ μητρί σου Εὐνίκῃ, πέπεισμαι δὲ ὅτι καὶ ἐν σοί.

Phonetic (Greek): diʼ hen aitian anamimnῄsko se anazopyrein to charisma toy theoy, ho estin en soi dia tes epitheseos ton cheiron mou·

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I remind you that you stir up the gift of God which is in you by the putting on of my hands.

διʼ ἣν αἰτίαν ἀναμιμνῄσκω σε ἀναζωπυρεῖν τὸ χάρισμα τοῦ θεοῦ, ὅ ἐστιν ἐν σοὶ διὰ τῆς ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν μου·

Phonetic (Greek): oy gar edoken hemin ho theos pneyma deilias, alla dynameos kai agapes kai sophronismoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

οὐ γὰρ ἔδωκεν ἡμῖν ὁ θεὸς πνεῦμα δειλίας, ἀλλὰ δυνάμεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ σωφρονισμοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Me oyn epaischynthῇs to martyrion toy kyriou hemon mede eme ton desmion aytoy, alla synkakopatheson tῷ eyangeliῳ kata dynamin theoy,

Edified Edition (EDE)Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but be a partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Μὴ οὖν ἐπαισχυνθῇς τὸ μαρτύριον τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν μηδὲ ἐμὲ τὸν δέσμιον αὐτοῦ, ἀλλὰ συγκακοπάθησον τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ κατὰ δύναμιν θεοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): toy sosantos hemas kai kalesantos klesei hagiᾳ, oy kata ta erga hemon alla kata idian prothesin kai charin, ten dotheisan hemin en Christῷ Ἰesoy pro chronon aionion,

Edified Edition (EDE)Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

τοῦ σώσαντος ἡμᾶς καὶ καλέσαντος κλήσει ἁγίᾳ, οὐ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα ἡμῶν ἀλλὰ κατὰ ἰδίαν πρόθεσιν καὶ χάριν, τὴν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ πρὸ χρόνων αἰωνίων,

Phonetic (Greek): phanerotheisan de nyn dia tes epiphaneias toy soteros hemon ⸂Ἰesoy Christoy⸃, katargesantos men ton thanaton photisantos de zoen kai aphtharsian dia toy eyangeliou,

Edified Edition (EDE)But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel;

φανερωθεῖσαν δὲ νῦν διὰ τῆς ἐπιφανείας τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν ⸂Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ⸃, καταργήσαντος μὲν τὸν θάνατον φωτίσαντος δὲ ζωὴν καὶ ἀφθαρσίαν διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου,

Phonetic (Greek): eis ho etethen ego keryx kai apostolos kai ⸀didaskalos.

Edified Edition (EDE)To which I am appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κῆρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος καὶ ⸀διδάσκαλος.

Phonetic (Greek): diʼ hen aitian kai tayta pascho, allʼ oyk epaischynomai, oida gar ho pepisteuka, kai pepeismai hoti dynatos estin ten paratheken mou phylaxai eis ekeinen ten hemeran.

Edified Edition (EDE)For which reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him against that Day.

διʼ ἣν αἰτίαν καὶ ταῦτα πάσχω, ἀλλʼ οὐκ ἐπαισχύνομαι, οἶδα γὰρ ᾧ πεπίστευκα, καὶ πέπεισμαι ὅτι δυνατός ἐστιν τὴν παραθήκην μου φυλάξαι εἰς ἐκείνην τὴν ἡμέραν.

Phonetic (Greek): hypotyposin eche hygiainonton logon hon parʼ emoy ekousas en pistei kai agapῃ tῇ en Christῷ Ἰesoy·

Edified Edition (EDE)Hold fast the form of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

ὑποτύπωσιν ἔχε ὑγιαινόντων λόγων ὧν παρʼ ἐμοῦ ἤκουσας ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): ten kalen paratheken phylaxon dia pneymatos hagiou toy enoikoyntos en hemin.

Edified Edition (EDE)That good thing which was committed to you keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

τὴν καλὴν παραθήκην φύλαξον διὰ πνεύματος ἁγίου τοῦ ἐνοικοῦντος ἐν ἡμῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): Oidas toyto hoti apestraphesan me pantes ohi en tῇ Ἀsiᾳ, hon estin Phygelos kai Ἑrmogenes.

Edified Edition (EDE)This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Οἶδας τοῦτο ὅτι ἀπεστράφησάν με πάντες οἱ ἐν τῇ Ἀσίᾳ, ὧν ἐστιν Φύγελος καὶ Ἑρμογένης.

Phonetic (Greek): dῴe eleos ho kyrios tῷ Ὀnesiphorou oikῳ, hoti pollakis me anepsyxen, kai ten halysin mou oyk epaischynthe·

Edified Edition (EDE)The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain;

δῴη ἔλεος ὁ κύριος τῷ Ὀνησιφόρου οἴκῳ, ὅτι πολλάκις με ἀνέψυξεν, καὶ τὴν ἅλυσίν μου οὐκ ἐπαισχύνθη·

Phonetic (Greek): alla genomenos en Ῥomῃ ⸀spoudaios ezetesen me kai ehyren—

Edified Edition (EDE)But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently and found me.

ἀλλὰ γενόμενος ἐν Ῥώμῃ ⸀σπουδαίως ἐζήτησέν με καὶ εὗρεν—

Phonetic (Greek): dῴe aytῷ ho kyrios ehyrein eleos para kyriou en ekeinῃ tῇ hemerᾳ— kai hosa en Ἐphesῳ diekonesen, beltion sy ginoskeis.

Edified Edition (EDE)The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day: and in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus, you know very well.

δῴη αὐτῷ ὁ κύριος εὑρεῖν ἔλεος παρὰ κυρίου ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ— καὶ ὅσα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ διηκόνησεν, βέλτιον σὺ γινώσκεις.
