Edified Edition (EDE)Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

⸀Συμεὼν Πέτρος δοῦλος καὶ ἀπόστολος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῖς ἰσότιμον ἡμῖν λαχοῦσιν πίστιν ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): charis hymin kai eirene plethyntheie en epignosei toy theoy kai Ἰesoy toy kyriou hemon.

Edified Edition (EDE)Grace and peace be multiplied to us through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη πληθυνθείη ἐν ἐπιγνώσει τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὡs panta hemin tes theias dynameos aytoy ta pros zoen kai eysebeian dedoremenes dia tes epignoseos toy kalesantos hemas ⸂idiᾳ doxῃ kai aretῇ⸃,

Edified Edition (EDE)According as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue:

Ὡς πάντα ἡμῖν τῆς θείας δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ τὰ πρὸς ζωὴν καὶ εὐσέβειαν δεδωρημένης διὰ τῆς ἐπιγνώσεως τοῦ καλέσαντος ἡμᾶς ⸂ἰδίᾳ δόξῃ καὶ ἀρετῇ⸃,

Phonetic (Greek): diʼ hon ta ⸂timia kai megista hemin⸃ epangelmata dedoretai, hina dia toyton genesthe theias koinonoi physeos, apophygontes tes en ⸀tῷ kosmῳ en epithymiᾳ phthoras.

Edified Edition (EDE)By which are given to us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

διʼ ὧν τὰ ⸂τίμια καὶ μέγιστα ἡμῖν⸃ ἐπαγγέλματα δεδώρηται, ἵνα διὰ τούτων γένησθε θείας κοινωνοὶ φύσεως, ἀποφυγόντες τῆς ἐν ⸀τῷ κόσμῳ ἐν ἐπιθυμίᾳ φθορᾶς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ayto toyto de spouden pasan pareisenenkantes epichoregesate en tῇ pistei hymon ten areten, en de tῇ aretῇ ten gnosin,

Edified Edition (EDE)And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

καὶ αὐτὸ τοῦτο δὲ σπουδὴν πᾶσαν παρεισενέγκαντες ἐπιχορηγήσατε ἐν τῇ πίστει ὑμῶν τὴν ἀρετήν, ἐν δὲ τῇ ἀρετῇ τὴν γνῶσιν,

Phonetic (Greek): en de tῇ gnosei ten enkrateian, en de tῇ enkrateiᾳ ten hypomonen, en de tῇ hypomonῇ ten eysebeian,

Edified Edition (EDE)And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

ἐν δὲ τῇ γνώσει τὴν ἐγκράτειαν, ἐν δὲ τῇ ἐγκρατείᾳ τὴν ὑπομονήν, ἐν δὲ τῇ ὑπομονῇ τὴν εὐσέβειαν,

Phonetic (Greek): en de tῇ eysebeiᾳ ten philadelphian, en de tῇ philadelphiᾳ ten agapen·

Edified Edition (EDE)And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love.

ἐν δὲ τῇ εὐσεβείᾳ τὴν φιλαδελφίαν, ἐν δὲ τῇ φιλαδελφίᾳ τὴν ἀγάπην·

Phonetic (Greek): tayta gar hymin hyparchonta kai pleonazonta oyk argoys oyde akarpous kathistesin eis ten toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy epignosin·

Edified Edition (EDE)For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

ταῦτα γὰρ ὑμῖν ὑπάρχοντα καὶ πλεονάζοντα οὐκ ἀργοὺς οὐδὲ ἀκάρπους καθίστησιν εἰς τὴν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐπίγνωσιν·

Phonetic (Greek): ho gar me parestin tayta, typhlos estin myopazon, lethen labon toy katharismoy ton palai aytoy ⸀hamartematon.

Edified Edition (EDE)But he who lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

ᾧ γὰρ μὴ πάρεστιν ταῦτα, τυφλός ἐστιν μυωπάζων, λήθην λαβὼν τοῦ καθαρισμοῦ τῶν πάλαι αὐτοῦ ⸀ἁμαρτημάτων.

Phonetic (Greek): dio mallon, adelphoi, spoudasate bebaian hymon ten klesin kai eklogen poieisthai· tayta gar poioyntes oy me ptaisete pote·

Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall:

διὸ μᾶλλον, ἀδελφοί, σπουδάσατε βεβαίαν ὑμῶν τὴν κλῆσιν καὶ ἐκλογὴν ποιεῖσθαι· ταῦτα γὰρ ποιοῦντες οὐ μὴ πταίσητέ ποτε·

Phonetic (Greek): ohytos gar plousios epichoregethesetai hymin he eisodos eis ten aionion basileian toy kyriou hemon kai soteros Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

οὕτως γὰρ πλουσίως ἐπιχορηγηθήσεται ὑμῖν ἡ εἴσοδος εἰς τὴν αἰώνιον βασιλείαν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν καὶ σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Dio ⸀melleso aei hymas hypomimnῄskein peri toyton, kaiper eidotas kai esterigmenous en tῇ paroysῃ aletheiᾳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though you know them, and be established in the present truth.

Διὸ ⸀μελλήσω ἀεὶ ὑμᾶς ὑπομιμνῄσκειν περὶ τούτων, καίπερ εἰδότας καὶ ἐστηριγμένους ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ ἀληθείᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): dikaion de hegoymai, ephʼ hoson eimi en toytῳ tῷ skenomati, diegeirein hymas en hypomnesei,

Edified Edition (EDE)Yes, I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

δίκαιον δὲ ἡγοῦμαι, ἐφʼ ὅσον εἰμὶ ἐν τούτῳ τῷ σκηνώματι, διεγείρειν ὑμᾶς ἐν ὑπομνήσει,

Phonetic (Greek): eidos hoti tachine estin he apothesis toy skenomatos mou, kathos kai ho kyrios hemon Ἰesoys Christos edelosen moi·

Edified Edition (EDE)Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has showed me.

εἰδὼς ὅτι ταχινή ἐστιν ἡ ἀπόθεσις τοῦ σκηνώματός μου, καθὼς καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς ἐδήλωσέν μοι·

Phonetic (Greek): spoudaso de kai hekastote echein hymas meta ten emen exodon ten toyton mnemen poieisthai.

Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover I will endeavour that you may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

σπουδάσω δὲ καὶ ἑκάστοτε ἔχειν ὑμᾶς μετὰ τὴν ἐμὴν ἔξοδον τὴν τούτων μνήμην ποιεῖσθαι.

Phonetic (Greek): Oy gar sesophismenois mythois exakolouthesantes egnorisamen hymin ten toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy dynamin kai parousian, allʼ epoptai genethentes tes ekeinou megaleiotetos.

Edified Edition (EDE)For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

Οὐ γὰρ σεσοφισμένοις μύθοις ἐξακολουθήσαντες ἐγνωρίσαμεν ὑμῖν τὴν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ δύναμιν καὶ παρουσίαν, ἀλλʼ ἐπόπται γενηθέντες τῆς ἐκείνου μεγαλειότητος.

Phonetic (Greek): labon gar para theoy patros timen kai doxan phones enechtheises aytῷ toiasde hypo tes megaloprepoys doxes· ⸂Ὁ yhios mou ho agapetos mou ohytos estin⸃, eis hon ego eydokesa—

Edified Edition (EDE)For He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

λαβὼν γὰρ παρὰ θεοῦ πατρὸς τιμὴν καὶ δόξαν φωνῆς ἐνεχθείσης αὐτῷ τοιᾶσδε ὑπὸ τῆς μεγαλοπρεποῦς δόξης· ⸂Ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός μου οὗτός ἐστιν⸃, εἰς ὃν ἐγὼ εὐδόκησα—

Phonetic (Greek): kai tayten ten phonen hemeis ekoysamen ex oyranoy enechtheisan syn aytῷ ontes en tῷ ⸂hagiῳ orei⸃.

Edified Edition (EDE)And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount.

καὶ ταύτην τὴν φωνὴν ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἐνεχθεῖσαν σὺν αὐτῷ ὄντες ἐν τῷ ⸂ἁγίῳ ὄρει⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai echomen bebaioteron ton prophetikon logon, ho kalos poieite prosechontes hos lychnῳ phainonti en aychmerῷ topῳ, heos ohy hemera diaugasῃ kai phosphoros anateilῃ en tais kardiais hymon·

Edified Edition (EDE)We have also a more sure word of prophecy; to which you do well that you take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

καὶ ἔχομεν βεβαιότερον τὸν προφητικὸν λόγον, ᾧ καλῶς ποιεῖτε προσέχοντες ὡς λύχνῳ φαίνοντι ἐν αὐχμηρῷ τόπῳ, ἕως οὗ ἡμέρα διαυγάσῃ καὶ φωσφόρος ἀνατείλῃ ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): toyto proton ginoskontes hoti pasa propheteia graphes idias epilyseos oy ginetai,

Edified Edition (EDE)Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

τοῦτο πρῶτον γινώσκοντες ὅτι πᾶσα προφητεία γραφῆς ἰδίας ἐπιλύσεως οὐ γίνεται,

Phonetic (Greek): oy gar thelemati anthropou enechthe ⸂propheteia pote⸃, alla hypo pneymatos hagiou pheromenoi elalesan ⸀apo theoy anthropoi.

Edified Edition (EDE)For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of person: but holy people of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

οὐ γὰρ θελήματι ἀνθρώπου ἠνέχθη ⸂προφητεία ποτέ⸃, ἀλλὰ ὑπὸ πνεύματος ἁγίου φερόμενοι ἐλάλησαν ⸀ἀπὸ θεοῦ ἄνθρωποι.
