Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope;

Edified Edition (EDE)To Timothy, my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

Τιμοθέῳ γνησίῳ τέκνῳ ἐν πίστει· χάρις, ἔλεος, εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ ⸀πατρὸς καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν.

Edified Edition (EDE)As I urged you to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that you might charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

Καθὼς παρεκάλεσά σε προσμεῖναι ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, πορευόμενος εἰς Μακεδονίαν, ἵνα παραγγείλῃς τισὶν μὴ ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖν

Phonetic (Greek): mede prosechein mythois kai genealogiais aperantois, ahitines ⸀ekzeteseis parechousi mallon e oikonomian theoy ten en pistei—

Edified Edition (EDE)Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith; so do.

μηδὲ προσέχειν μύθοις καὶ γενεαλογίαις ἀπεράντοις, αἵτινες ⸀ἐκζητήσεις παρέχουσι μᾶλλον ἢ οἰκονομίαν θεοῦ τὴν ἐν πίστει—

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the goal of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith;

τὸ δὲ τέλος τῆς παραγγελίας ἐστὶν ἀγάπη ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας καὶ συνειδήσεως ἀγαθῆς καὶ πίστεως ἀνυποκρίτου,

Edified Edition (EDE)From which some, having strayed, have turned aside to vain talk;

ὧν τινες ἀστοχήσαντες ἐξετράπησαν εἰς ματαιολογίαν,

Edified Edition (EDE)Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor what they confidently affirm.

θέλοντες εἶναι νομοδιδάσκαλοι, μὴ νοοῦντες μήτε ἃ λέγουσιν μήτε περὶ τίνων διαβεβαιοῦνται.

Phonetic (Greek): Oidamen de hoti kalos ho nomos ean tis aytῷ nomimos chretai,

Edified Edition (EDE)But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully,

Οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι καλὸς ὁ νόμος ἐάν τις αὐτῷ νομίμως χρῆται,

Edified Edition (EDE)Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

εἰδὼς τοῦτο, ὅτι δικαίῳ νόμος οὐ κεῖται, ἀνόμοις δὲ καὶ ἀνυποτάκτοις, ἀσεβέσι καὶ ἁμαρτωλοῖς, ἀνοσίοις καὶ βεβήλοις, πατρολῴαις καὶ μητρολῴαις, ἀνδροφόνοις,

Phonetic (Greek): pornois, arsenokoitais, andrapodistais, pseystais, epiorkois, kai ei ti heteron tῇ hygiainoysῃ didaskaliᾳ antikeitai,

Edified Edition (EDE)For the sexually immoral, for those who defile themselves with mankind, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,

πόρνοις, ἀρσενοκοίταις, ἀνδραποδισταῖς, ψεύσταις, ἐπιόρκοις, καὶ εἴ τι ἕτερον τῇ ὑγιαινούσῃ διδασκαλίᾳ ἀντίκειται,

Edified Edition (EDE)According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.

κατὰ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς δόξης τοῦ μακαρίου θεοῦ, ὃ ἐπιστεύθην ἐγώ.

Edified Edition (EDE)And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

⸀Χάριν ἔχω τῷ ἐνδυναμώσαντί με Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν, ὅτι πιστόν με ἡγήσατο θέμενος εἰς διακονίαν,

Edified Edition (EDE)Although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

⸀τὸ πρότερον ὄντα βλάσφημον καὶ διώκτην καὶ ὑβριστήν· ἀλλὰ ἠλεήθην, ὅτι ἀγνοῶν ἐποίησα ἐν ἀπιστίᾳ,

Edified Edition (EDE)And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

ὑπερεπλεόνασεν δὲ ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν μετὰ πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): pistos ho logos kai pases apodoches axios, hoti Christos Ἰesoys elthen eis ton kosmon hamartoloys sosai· hon protos eimi ego,

Edified Edition (EDE)This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

πιστὸς ὁ λόγος καὶ πάσης ἀποδοχῆς ἄξιος, ὅτι Χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς ἦλθεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἁμαρτωλοὺς σῶσαι· ὧν πρῶτός εἰμι ἐγώ,

Phonetic (Greek): alla dia toyto eleethen, hina en emoi protῳ endeixetai ⸂Christos Ἰesoys⸃ ten ⸀hapasan makrothymian, pros hypotyposin ton mellonton pisteyein epʼ aytῷ eis zoen aionion.

Edified Edition (EDE)However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all patience, as a pattern to those who would hereafter believe on Him for everlasting life.

ἀλλὰ διὰ τοῦτο ἠλεήθην, ἵνα ἐν ἐμοὶ πρώτῳ ἐνδείξηται ⸂Χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς⸃ τὴν ⸀ἅπασαν μακροθυμίαν, πρὸς ὑποτύπωσιν τῶν μελλόντων πιστεύειν ἐπʼ αὐτῷ εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

Phonetic (Greek): tῷ de basilei ton aionon, aphthartῳ, aoratῳ, ⸀monῳ theῷ, time kai doxa eis toys aionas ton aionon· amen.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.

τῷ δὲ βασιλεῖ τῶν αἰώνων, ἀφθάρτῳ, ἀοράτῳ, ⸀μόνῳ θεῷ, τιμὴ καὶ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων· ἀμήν.

Edified Edition (EDE)This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you might wage a good warfare,

Ταύτην τὴν παραγγελίαν παρατίθεμαί σοι, τέκνον Τιμόθεε, κατὰ τὰς προαγούσας ἐπὶ σὲ προφητείας, ἵνα ⸀στρατεύῃ ἐν αὐταῖς τὴν καλὴν στρατείαν,

Phonetic (Greek): echon pistin kai agathen syneidesin, hen tines aposamenoi peri ten pistin enauagesan·

Edified Edition (EDE)Having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck;

ἔχων πίστιν καὶ ἀγαθὴν συνείδησιν, ἥν τινες ἀπωσάμενοι περὶ τὴν πίστιν ἐναυάγησαν·

Phonetic (Greek): hon estin Ὑmenaios kai Ἀlexandros, ohys paredoka tῷ Satanᾷ hina paideuthosi me blasphemein.

Edified Edition (EDE)Of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.

ὧν ἐστιν Ὑμέναιος καὶ Ἀλέξανδρος, οὓς παρέδωκα τῷ Σατανᾷ ἵνα παιδευθῶσι μὴ βλασφημεῖν.
