Chapter 1

Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Παῦλος καὶ Σιλουανὸς καὶ Τιμόθεος τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ Θεσσαλονικέων ἐν θεῷ πατρὶ καὶ κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ Χριστῷ· χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ ⸀εἰρήνη.

Phonetic (Greek): Eycharistoymen tῷ theῷ pantote peri panton hymon ⸀mneian poioymenoi epi ton proseuchon hemon, adialeiptos

Edified Edition (EDE)We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,

Εὐχαριστοῦμεν τῷ θεῷ πάντοτε περὶ πάντων ὑμῶν ⸀μνείαν ποιούμενοι ἐπὶ τῶν προσευχῶν ἡμῶν, ἀδιαλείπτως

Phonetic (Greek): mnemoneyontes hymon toy ergou tes pisteos kai toy kopou tes agapes kai tes hypomones tes elpidos toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy emprosthen toy theoy kai patros hemon,

Edified Edition (EDE)remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father,

μνημονεύοντες ὑμῶν τοῦ ἔργου τῆς πίστεως καὶ τοῦ κόπου τῆς ἀγάπης καὶ τῆς ὑπομονῆς τῆς ἐλπίδος τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): eidotes, adelphoi egapemenoi hypo ⸀theoy, ten eklogen hymon,

Edified Edition (EDE)knowing, beloved brothers, your election by God.

εἰδότες, ἀδελφοὶ ἠγαπημένοι ὑπὸ ⸀θεοῦ, τὴν ἐκλογὴν ὑμῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): hoti to eyangelion hemon oyk egenethe eis hymas en logῳ monon alla kai en dynamei kai en pneymati hagiῳ ⸀kai plerophoriᾳ pollῇ, kathos oidate ohioi egenethemen ⸀en hymin diʼ hymas·

Edified Edition (EDE)For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

ὅτι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον ἡμῶν οὐκ ἐγενήθη εἰς ὑμᾶς ἐν λόγῳ μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐν δυνάμει καὶ ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ ⸀καὶ πληροφορίᾳ πολλῇ, καθὼς οἴδατε οἷοι ἐγενήθημεν ⸀ἐν ὑμῖν διʼ ὑμᾶς·

Phonetic (Greek): kai hymeis mimetai hemon egenethete kai toy kyriou, dexamenoi ton logon en thlipsei pollῇ meta charas pneymatos hagiou,

Edified Edition (EDE)And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

καὶ ὑμεῖς μιμηταὶ ἡμῶν ἐγενήθητε καὶ τοῦ κυρίου, δεξάμενοι τὸν λόγον ἐν θλίψει πολλῇ μετὰ χαρᾶς πνεύματος ἁγίου,

Phonetic (Greek): hoste genesthai hymas ⸀typon pasin tois pisteyousin en tῇ Makedoniᾳ kai ⸀en tῇ Ἀchaiᾳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe.

ὥστε γενέσθαι ὑμᾶς ⸀τύπον πᾶσιν τοῖς πιστεύουσιν ἐν τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ καὶ ⸀ἐν τῇ Ἀχαΐᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): aphʼ hymon gar exechetai ho logos toy kyriou oy monon en tῇ Makedoniᾳ ⸀kai Ἀchaiᾳ, ⸀allʼ en panti topῳ he pistis hymon he pros ton theon exelelythen, hoste me chreian ⸂echein hemas⸃ lalein ti·

Edified Edition (EDE)For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything.

ἀφʼ ὑμῶν γὰρ ἐξήχηται ὁ λόγος τοῦ κυρίου οὐ μόνον ἐν τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ ⸀καὶ Ἀχαΐᾳ, ⸀ἀλλʼ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν ἡ πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἐξελήλυθεν, ὥστε μὴ χρείαν ⸂ἔχειν ἡμᾶς⸃ λαλεῖν τι·

Phonetic (Greek): aytoi gar peri hemon apangellousin hopoian eisodon eschomen pros hymas, kai pos epestrepsate pros ton theon apo ton eidolon douleyein theῷ zonti kai alethinῷ,

Edified Edition (EDE)For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,

αὐτοὶ γὰρ περὶ ἡμῶν ἀπαγγέλλουσιν ὁποίαν εἴσοδον ἔσχομεν πρὸς ὑμᾶς, καὶ πῶς ἐπεστρέψατε πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἀπὸ τῶν εἰδώλων δουλεύειν θεῷ ζῶντι καὶ ἀληθινῷ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai anamenein ton yhion aytoy ek ton oyranon, hon egeiren ek ton nekron, Ἰesoyn ton ῥyomenon hemas ⸀ek tes orges tes erchomenes.

Edified Edition (EDE)and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

καὶ ἀναμένειν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν, ὃν ἤγειρεν ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν, Ἰησοῦν τὸν ῥυόμενον ἡμᾶς ⸀ἐκ τῆς ὀργῆς τῆς ἐρχομένης.
