Edified Edition (EDE)Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

Edified Edition (EDE)Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you, and peace, be multiplied.

κατὰ πρόγνωσιν θεοῦ πατρός, ἐν ἁγιασμῷ πνεύματος, εἰς ὑπακοὴν καὶ ῥαντισμὸν αἵματος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ· χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη πληθυνθείη.

Edified Edition (EDE)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Εὐλογητὸς ὁ θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ὁ κατὰ τὸ πολὺ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος ἀναγεννήσας ἡμᾶς εἰς ἐλπίδα ζῶσαν διʼ ἀναστάσεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐκ νεκρῶν,

Edified Edition (EDE)To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you,

εἰς κληρονομίαν ἄφθαρτον καὶ ἀμίαντον καὶ ἀμάραντον, τετηρημένην ἐν οὐρανοῖς εἰς ὑμᾶς

Edified Edition (EDE)Who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

τοὺς ἐν δυνάμει θεοῦ φρουρουμένους διὰ πίστεως εἰς σωτηρίαν ἑτοίμην ἀποκαλυφθῆναι ἐν καιρῷ ἐσχάτῳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)In which you greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, you are in heaviness through various trials:

ἐν ᾧ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὀλίγον ἄρτι εἰ ⸀δέον ⸀λυπηθέντες ἐν ποικίλοις πειρασμοῖς,

Edified Edition (EDE)That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found to praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

ἵνα τὸ δοκίμιον ὑμῶν τῆς πίστεως ⸀πολυτιμότερον χρυσίου τοῦ ἀπολλυμένου διὰ πυρὸς δὲ δοκιμαζομένου εὑρεθῇ εἰς ἔπαινον καὶ ⸂δόξαν καὶ τιμὴν⸃ ἐν ἀποκαλύψει Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): hon oyk ⸀idontes agapate, eis hon arti me horontes pisteyontes de ⸀agalliasthe charᾷ aneklaletῳ kai dedoxasmenῃ,

Edified Edition (EDE)Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see Him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

ὃν οὐκ ⸀ἰδόντες ἀγαπᾶτε, εἰς ὃν ἄρτι μὴ ὁρῶντες πιστεύοντες δὲ ⸀ἀγαλλιᾶσθε χαρᾷ ἀνεκλαλήτῳ καὶ δεδοξασμένῃ,

Edified Edition (EDE)Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

κομιζόμενοι τὸ τέλος τῆς πίστεως ⸀ὑμῶν σωτηρίαν ψυχῶν.

Edified Edition (EDE)Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come to you:

Περὶ ἧς σωτηρίας ἐξεζήτησαν καὶ ἐξηραύνησαν προφῆται οἱ περὶ τῆς εἰς ὑμᾶς χάριτος προφητεύσαντες,

Edified Edition (EDE)Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ who was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

ἐραυνῶντες εἰς τίνα ἢ ποῖον καιρὸν ἐδήλου τὸ ἐν αὐτοῖς πνεῦμα Χριστοῦ προμαρτυρόμενον τὰ εἰς Χριστὸν παθήματα καὶ τὰς μετὰ ταῦτα δόξας·

Phonetic (Greek): ohis apekalyphthe hoti oych heautois hymin de diekonoun ayta, ha nyn anengele hymin dia ton eyangelisamenon ⸀hymas pneymati hagiῳ apostalenti apʼ oyranoy, eis ha epithymoysin angeloi parakypsai.

Edified Edition (EDE)To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to us they did minister the things, which are now reported to you by those who have preached the gospel to you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

οἷς ἀπεκαλύφθη ὅτι οὐχ ἑαυτοῖς ὑμῖν δὲ διηκόνουν αὐτά, ἃ νῦν ἀνηγγέλη ὑμῖν διὰ τῶν εὐαγγελισαμένων ⸀ὑμᾶς πνεύματι ἁγίῳ ἀποσταλέντι ἀπʼ οὐρανοῦ, εἰς ἃ ἐπιθυμοῦσιν ἄγγελοι παρακύψαι.

Phonetic (Greek): Dio anazosamenoi tas osphyas tes dianoias hymon, nephontes teleios, elpisate epi ten pheromenen hymin charin en apokalypsei Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Διὸ ἀναζωσάμενοι τὰς ὀσφύας τῆς διανοίας ὑμῶν, νήφοντες τελείως, ἐλπίσατε ἐπὶ τὴν φερομένην ὑμῖν χάριν ἐν ἀποκαλύψει Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): hos tekna hypakoes, me syschematizomenoi tais proteron en tῇ agnoiᾳ hymon epithymiais,

Edified Edition (EDE)As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

ὡς τέκνα ὑπακοῆς, μὴ συσχηματιζόμενοι ταῖς πρότερον ἐν τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν ἐπιθυμίαις,

Phonetic (Greek): alla kata ton kalesanta hymas hagion kai aytoi hagioi en pasῃ anastrophῇ genethete,

Edified Edition (EDE)But as He who has called you is holy, so be you holy in all manner of conduct;

ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὸν καλέσαντα ὑμᾶς ἅγιον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἅγιοι ἐν πάσῃ ἀναστροφῇ γενήθητε,

Phonetic (Greek): dioti gegraptai ⸀hoti Ἅgioi ⸀esesthe, hoti ego ⸀hagios.

Edified Edition (EDE)Because it is written, "Be you holy; for I am holy."

διότι γέγραπται ⸀ὅτι Ἅγιοι ⸀ἔσεσθε, ὅτι ἐγὼ ⸀ἅγιος.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai ei patera epikaleisthe ton aprosopolemptos krinonta kata to hekastou ergon, en phobῳ ton tes paroikias hymon chronon anastraphete·

Edified Edition (EDE)And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every person’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

Καὶ εἰ πατέρα ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸν ἀπροσωπολήμπτως κρίνοντα κατὰ τὸ ἑκάστου ἔργον, ἐν φόβῳ τὸν τῆς παροικίας ὑμῶν χρόνον ἀναστράφητε·

Phonetic (Greek): eidotes hoti oy phthartois, argyriῳ e chrysiῳ, elytrothete ek tes mataias hymon anastrophes patroparadotou,

Edified Edition (EDE)Forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain way of life received by tradition from your fathers;

εἰδότες ὅτι οὐ φθαρτοῖς, ἀργυρίῳ ἢ χρυσίῳ, ἐλυτρώθητε ἐκ τῆς ματαίας ὑμῶν ἀναστροφῆς πατροπαραδότου,

Phonetic (Greek): alla timiῳ ahimati hos amnoy amomou kai aspilou Christoy,

Edified Edition (EDE)But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

ἀλλὰ τιμίῳ αἵματι ὡς ἀμνοῦ ἀμώμου καὶ ἀσπίλου Χριστοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): proegnosmenou men pro kataboles kosmou, phanerothentos de epʼ ⸀eschatou ton chronon diʼ hymas

Edified Edition (EDE)Who truly was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

προεγνωσμένου μὲν πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου, φανερωθέντος δὲ ἐπʼ ⸀ἐσχάτου τῶν χρόνων διʼ ὑμᾶς

Phonetic (Greek): toys diʼ aytoy ⸀pistoys eis theon ton egeiranta ayton ek nekron kai doxan aytῷ donta, hoste ten pistin hymon kai elpida einai eis theon.

Edified Edition (EDE)Who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

τοὺς διʼ αὐτοῦ ⸀πιστοὺς εἰς θεὸν τὸν ἐγείραντα αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν καὶ δόξαν αὐτῷ δόντα, ὥστε τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐλπίδα εἶναι εἰς θεόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Tas psychas hymon hegnikotes en tῇ hypakoῇ tes ⸀aletheias eis philadelphian anypokriton ⸀ek kardias allelous agapesate ektenos,

Edified Edition (EDE)Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brothers, see that you love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν ἡγνικότες ἐν τῇ ὑπακοῇ τῆς ⸀ἀληθείας εἰς φιλαδελφίαν ἀνυπόκριτον ⸀ἐκ καρδίας ἀλλήλους ἀγαπήσατε ἐκτενῶς,

Phonetic (Greek): anagegennemenoi oyk ek sporas phthartes alla aphthartou, dia logou zontos theoy kai ⸀menontos·

Edified Edition (EDE)Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and remains forever.

ἀναγεγεννημένοι οὐκ ἐκ σπορᾶς φθαρτῆς ἀλλὰ ἀφθάρτου, διὰ λόγου ζῶντος θεοῦ καὶ ⸀μένοντος·

Phonetic (Greek): dioti pasa sarx hos chortos, kai pasa doxa ⸀aytes hos anthos chortou· exeranthe ho chortos, kai to ⸀anthos exepesen·

Edified Edition (EDE)For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of people as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:

διότι πᾶσα σὰρξ ὡς χόρτος, καὶ πᾶσα δόξα ⸀αὐτῆς ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου· ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος, καὶ τὸ ⸀ἄνθος ἐξέπεσεν·

Phonetic (Greek): to de ῥema kyriou menei eis ton aiona. toyto de estin to ῥema to eyangelisthen eis hymas.

Edified Edition (EDE)But the word of the Lord remains forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you.

τὸ δὲ ῥῆμα κυρίου μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. τοῦτο δέ ἐστιν τὸ ῥῆμα τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν εἰς ὑμᾶς.
