Edified Edition (EDE)Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

Edified Edition (EDE)To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ, ⸂ἡγιασμένοις ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, τῇ οὔσῃ ἐν Κορίνθῳ,⸃ κλητοῖς ἁγίοις, σὺν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐπικαλουμένοις τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ⸀αὐτῶν καὶ ἡμῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): charis hymin kai eirene apo theoy patros hemon kai kyriou Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Eycharisto tῷ theῷ ⸀mou pantote peri hymon epi tῇ chariti toy theoy tῇ dotheisῃ hymin en Christῷ Ἰesoy,

Edified Edition (EDE)I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,

Εὐχαριστῶ τῷ θεῷ ⸀μου πάντοτε περὶ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ τῇ χάριτι τοῦ θεοῦ τῇ δοθείσῃ ὑμῖν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ,

Edified Edition (EDE)that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge,

ὅτι ἐν παντὶ ἐπλουτίσθητε ἐν αὐτῷ, ἐν παντὶ λόγῳ καὶ πάσῃ γνώσει,

Edified Edition (EDE)even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you,

καθὼς τὸ μαρτύριον τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐβεβαιώθη ἐν ὑμῖν,

Edified Edition (EDE)so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

ὥστε ὑμᾶς μὴ ὑστερεῖσθαι ἐν μηδενὶ χαρίσματι, ἀπεκδεχομένους τὴν ἀποκάλυψιν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): hos kai bebaiosei hymas heos telous anenkletous en tῇ hemerᾳ toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

ὃς καὶ βεβαιώσει ὑμᾶς ἕως τέλους ἀνεγκλήτους ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Edified Edition (EDE)God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

πιστὸς ὁ θεὸς διʼ οὗ ἐκλήθητε εἰς κοινωνίαν τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): Parakalo de hymas, adelphoi, dia toy onomatos toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy hina to ayto legete pantes, kai me e en hymin schismata, ete de katertismenoi en tῷ aytῷ noῒ kai en tῇ aytῇ gnomῃ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now I plead with you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement.

Παρακαλῶ δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, διὰ τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἵνα τὸ αὐτὸ λέγητε πάντες, καὶ μὴ ᾖ ἐν ὑμῖν σχίσματα, ἦτε δὲ κατηρτισμένοι ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ νοῒ καὶ ἐν τῇ αὐτῇ γνώμῃ.

Phonetic (Greek): edelothe gar moi peri hymon, adelphoi mou, hypo ton Chloes hoti erides en hymin eisin.

Edified Edition (EDE)For it has been reported to me concerning you, my brothers, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you.

ἐδηλώθη γάρ μοι περὶ ὑμῶν, ἀδελφοί μου, ὑπὸ τῶν Χλόης ὅτι ἔριδες ἐν ὑμῖν εἰσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): lego de toyto hoti hekastos hymon legei· Ἐgo men eimi Paylou, Ἐgo de Ἀpollo, Ἐgo de Kepha, Ἐgo de Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ."

λέγω δὲ τοῦτο ὅτι ἕκαστος ὑμῶν λέγει· Ἐγὼ μέν εἰμι Παύλου, Ἐγὼ δὲ Ἀπολλῶ, Ἐγὼ δὲ Κηφᾶ, Ἐγὼ δὲ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): memeristai ho Christos; me Paylos estaurothe hyper hymon, e eis to onoma Paylou ebaptisthete;

Edified Edition (EDE)Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptised in the name of Paul?

μεμέρισται ὁ Χριστός; μὴ Παῦλος ἐσταυρώθη ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν, ἢ εἰς τὸ ὄνομα Παύλου ἐβαπτίσθητε;

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀eycharisto hoti oydena hymon ebaptisa ei me Krispon kai Gaion,

Edified Edition (EDE)I thank God that I baptised none of you except Crispus and Gaius,

⸀εὐχαριστῶ ὅτι οὐδένα ὑμῶν ἐβάπτισα εἰ μὴ Κρίσπον καὶ Γάϊον,

Phonetic (Greek): hina me tis eipῃ hoti eis to emon onoma ⸀ebaptisthete·

Edified Edition (EDE)lest anyone should say that I had baptised in my own name.

ἵνα μή τις εἴπῃ ὅτι εἰς τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα ⸀ἐβαπτίσθητε·

Phonetic (Greek): ebaptisa de kai ton Stephana oikon· loipon oyk oida ei tina allon ebaptisa.

Edified Edition (EDE)Yes, I also baptised the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptised any others.

ἐβάπτισα δὲ καὶ τὸν Στεφανᾶ οἶκον· λοιπὸν οὐκ οἶδα εἴ τινα ἄλλον ἐβάπτισα.

Phonetic (Greek): oy gar apesteilen me Christos baptizein alla eyangelizesthai, oyk en sophiᾳ logou, hina me kenothῇ ho stauros toy Christoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)For Christ did not send me to baptise, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

οὐ γὰρ ἀπέστειλέν με Χριστὸς βαπτίζειν ἀλλὰ εὐαγγελίζεσθαι, οὐκ ἐν σοφίᾳ λόγου, ἵνα μὴ κενωθῇ ὁ σταυρὸς τοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ logos gar ho toy stauroy tois men apollymenois moria estin, tois de sῳzomenois hemin dynamis theoy estin.

Edified Edition (EDE)For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Ὁ λόγος γὰρ ὁ τοῦ σταυροῦ τοῖς μὲν ἀπολλυμένοις μωρία ἐστίν, τοῖς δὲ σῳζομένοις ἡμῖν δύναμις θεοῦ ἐστιν.

Phonetic (Greek): gegraptai gar· Ἀpolo ten sophian ton sophon, kai ten synesin ton syneton atheteso.

Edified Edition (EDE)For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

γέγραπται γάρ· Ἀπολῶ τὴν σοφίαν τῶν σοφῶν, καὶ τὴν σύνεσιν τῶν συνετῶν ἀθετήσω.

Phonetic (Greek): poy sophos; poy grammateys; poy syzetetes toy aionos toytou; oychi emoranen ho theos ten sophian toy ⸀kosmou;

Edified Edition (EDE)Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

ποῦ σοφός; ποῦ γραμματεύς; ποῦ συζητητὴς τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου; οὐχὶ ἐμώρανεν ὁ θεὸς τὴν σοφίαν τοῦ ⸀κόσμου;

Phonetic (Greek): epeide gar en tῇ sophiᾳ toy theoy oyk egno ho kosmos dia tes sophias ton theon, eydokesen ho theos dia tes morias toy kerygmatos sosai toys pisteyontas.

Edified Edition (EDE)For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἐν τῇ σοφίᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἔγνω ὁ κόσμος διὰ τῆς σοφίας τὸν θεόν, εὐδόκησεν ὁ θεὸς διὰ τῆς μωρίας τοῦ κηρύγματος σῶσαι τοὺς πιστεύοντας.

Phonetic (Greek): epeide kai Ἰoudaioi ⸀semeia aitoysin kai Ἕllenes sophian zetoysin·

Edified Edition (EDE)For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

ἐπειδὴ καὶ Ἰουδαῖοι ⸀σημεῖα αἰτοῦσιν καὶ Ἕλληνες σοφίαν ζητοῦσιν·

Phonetic (Greek): hemeis de keryssomen Christon estauromenon, Ἰoudaiois men skandalon ⸀ethnesin de morian,

Edified Edition (EDE)but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,

ἡμεῖς δὲ κηρύσσομεν Χριστὸν ἐσταυρωμένον, Ἰουδαίοις μὲν σκάνδαλον ⸀ἔθνεσιν δὲ μωρίαν,

Phonetic (Greek): aytois de tois kletois, Ἰoudaiois te kai Ἕllesin, Christon theoy dynamin kai theoy sophian.

Edified Edition (EDE)but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

αὐτοῖς δὲ τοῖς κλητοῖς, Ἰουδαίοις τε καὶ Ἕλλησιν, Χριστὸν θεοῦ δύναμιν καὶ θεοῦ σοφίαν.

Phonetic (Greek): hoti to moron toy theoy sophoteron ton anthropon estin, kai to asthenes toy theoy ischyroteron ton ⸀anthropon.

Edified Edition (EDE)Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

ὅτι τὸ μωρὸν τοῦ θεοῦ σοφώτερον τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἐστίν, καὶ τὸ ἀσθενὲς τοῦ θεοῦ ἰσχυρότερον τῶν ⸀ἀνθρώπων.

Phonetic (Greek): Blepete gar ten klesin hymon, adelphoi, hoti oy polloi sophoi kata sarka, oy polloi dynatoi, oy polloi eygeneis·

Edified Edition (EDE)For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.

Βλέπετε γὰρ τὴν κλῆσιν ὑμῶν, ἀδελφοί, ὅτι οὐ πολλοὶ σοφοὶ κατὰ σάρκα, οὐ πολλοὶ δυνατοί, οὐ πολλοὶ εὐγενεῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): alla ta mora toy kosmou exelexato ho theos, hina ⸂kataischynῃ toys sophoys⸃, kai ta asthene toy kosmou exelexato ho theos, hina kataischynῃ ta ischyra,

Edified Edition (EDE)But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are mighty;

ἀλλὰ τὰ μωρὰ τοῦ κόσμου ἐξελέξατο ὁ θεός, ἵνα ⸂καταισχύνῃ τοὺς σοφούς⸃, καὶ τὰ ἀσθενῆ τοῦ κόσμου ἐξελέξατο ὁ θεός, ἵνα καταισχύνῃ τὰ ἰσχυρά,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ta agene toy kosmou kai ta exouthenemena exelexato ho theos, ⸀ta me onta, hina ta onta katargesῃ,

Edified Edition (EDE)and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

καὶ τὰ ἀγενῆ τοῦ κόσμου καὶ τὰ ἐξουθενημένα ἐξελέξατο ὁ θεός, ⸀τὰ μὴ ὄντα, ἵνα τὰ ὄντα καταργήσῃ,

Phonetic (Greek): hopos me kauchesetai pasa sarx enopion toy theoy.

Edified Edition (EDE)that no flesh should glory in His presence.

ὅπως μὴ καυχήσηται πᾶσα σὰρξ ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ex aytoy de hymeis este en Christῷ Ἰesoy, hos egenethe ⸂sophia hemin⸃ apo theoy, dikaiosyne te kai hagiasmos kai apolytrosis,

Edified Edition (EDE)But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

ἐξ αὐτοῦ δὲ ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, ὃς ἐγενήθη ⸂σοφία ἡμῖν⸃ ἀπὸ θεοῦ, δικαιοσύνη τε καὶ ἁγιασμὸς καὶ ἀπολύτρωσις,

Phonetic (Greek): hina kathos gegraptai· Ὁ kauchomenos en kyriῳ kauchastho.

Edified Edition (EDE)that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD."

ἵνα καθὼς γέγραπται· Ὁ καυχώμενος ἐν κυρίῳ καυχάσθω.
